It’s biggest problem was the romance between the FMC and her ex fiancé and how all that worked out. It should have been tougher in my humble opinion. But overall, it was pretty good. ...more

A high stakes, edge of your seat contemporary mystery/sci-fi story that’s easily accessible to all readers. You don’t need to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy this story. The writing was great with very well developed characters. The narrator is absolutely brilliant and brought the story to life.

The narrator was excellent and did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. Another great Audible sale find. ...more

Unfortunately, those are the only good things I can say about it. To be fair, I’m not the target audience. However my issues aren’t about it being a YA romance. They’re about the failure of the story to deliver on its potential. You can see what the author is trying to achieve but it falls far short of the goal. It’s too bad because the outline of a potentially decent story is the but the execution is lacking. The angst isn’t quite there. The “bully” isn’t a bully at all and is actually a pretty nice guy. The author tries to build tension but the writing is too weak to make it work. I won’t be continuing with this series. ...more

My taste in raunchy romance doesn’t lean towards taboo relationships but I thought I’d give this one a try. If there’s a smut scale this book is off the charts. But that’s not the reason I liked the book. I was raised Catholic and admitted in my early 20’s that I didn’t actually believe in a god or gods of any kind. But I know the church, its rituals, its prayers and traditions. And I always thought the vows of celibacy taken by priests and nuns were nonsensical. Even as a child I voiced my views on this only to be harshly chastised by my very embarrassed mother because, of course, I’d stated my thoughts publicly.
I got Tyler in this story. There’s an underlying theme of Catholic guilt throughout the book that is very nuanced but it’s there. So I got him. I understood why he became a priest and his mission to reform the institution from within while fulfilling what he believed to be God’s mission for him. A mission of service to his community. His human struggles were authentic. Poppy was a much less developed character and it was difficult to understand her and her motivations. We only got surface level with Poppy’s story and that’s why I’m not giving this 5 stars.
I didn’t care that Tyler swore so much, didn’t care about them having sex in “sacred spaces” or that some ritualistic items were used. I guess it’s hard to offend an atheist that thinks all that stuff is bullshit. ...more

The narrators, Maxine and Joe, did a phenomenal job. 10 stars for them. But the premise of this story was very weak and I had trouble getting over that. It was also a bit too insta-love for me. Natalie’s character annoyed me for the first two thirds of the story. On the other hand, Easton’s character was fire throughout! So I didn’t love the first 60-70% of the book. But Kate definitely came through in the last 30% with brilliant angst and conflict. I swear she’s not happy unless she rips your heart out and leaves you bawling. I live for that in her books. ...more

And this bI listened to the audiobook and almost DNF’d it after the first hour. This could easily be one third shorter and still tell the same story. And this book is for teenagers or adults who seriously haven’t gotten over their teenage glory. The writing is immature in several places. I cringed a lot! There are too many characters at the beginning of the story making it confusing to keep everyone straight. It does have a couple of redeeming qualities. There were twists I didn’t see coming that were interesting. And if you don’t know, it has a love triangle trope but I thought it was done well. Overall, listening to this was several hours of my life that could have been better spent. ...more
