I am not as fast reading in Spanish as English, but I read the entire novel over the course of two weeks while on vacation in the south of Chile. I was staying in a rural cabin for most of it, which really maximized the creepy vibes. ...more

The quality of writing was way, way above average for the genre and the story tackled a dystopian future in a way that felt unique, despite how well-trod that ground currently is. There is also this deep, complex theme running throughout all three books about the strength of women. While not all of the female characters are heroes, they all have this kearnel of inner strength tied up in their ability to endure both physical and emotional pain all while taking care of those around them. These characters are dressed up like dolls, used as human incubators, and experimented on like lab rats, but they are still the badasses when compared to the male protagonist, who is protected by everyone around him and kept in pleasant ignorance. There is a serious, nuanced critique of patriarchy here that rivals what would be found in adult genre work.
