My 5th grader was reading this in school, and I downloaded a digital copy from the library to read along with him, to be able to discuss the developments. I'd read it before years and years ago, and remembered the basics.
It was interesting to read as an adult, as a parent. My sensitive son commented on the language "they swear in this book Mom" ... I don't know that I would have registered it myself, as a jaded adult. I did note some of the thoughts on religion/death/hell (based on my own personal struggle) in a different light. I'll admit to shedding a tear or two, even though there were no surprises as I'd already read the story.
It was nice to read it again.
