I love this book because of its simplicity. It uses little words and great illustrations to describe a type of family. Claire Masurel's Two Homes story is about a young boy who introduces himself as Alex. Alex is the narrator and throughout this story he tells us how he has two of everything, split between two parents. He takes us on a visual journey showing his two houses, two bedrooms, two toothbrushes, two chairs, and so on and so forth. At the end he shares that he loves both of his parents and his parents love him no matter whose home he is in. This book relates to the cultural topic: family, because it is a representation of a family who does not love together. The main character lives with both parents but in separate homes, and is a prime example of the fact that you do not have to stay in the same home to be a family. This book is realistic fiction and could be very interesting to children based off of the illustrations alone. This book uses language that is very simple and easy for children to understand. The illustrations are the biggest part of this book. They tell majority of the story and allow the readers to see how different two homes can be. This book exposes children to a different view of a family home, and shows them a different lifestyle that is simple to understand.
