Marco Polo: From Venice to Xanadu

Interesting read, gives some good context to Marco Polo's original work, but it dragged on too much for me to be constantly engaged. The first half or so of the book where Marco is still traveling to China is the most interesting. The places he stopped were definitely more entertaining than the long stretches where Mongolian court life were investigated in detail. Also, I could have lived without all the stuff in the final chapters where we learn about what happens to Venice in the decades and centuries after Marco returns. The last part of the book was hard for me to finish because it got so boring, dealing with papal bulls and marriage traditions, etc.
