“I’m worth something. I’m worth enough that he wanted me.”

Oh, boy...that ending!

So after devouring Dark Reign earlier this week, I just needed to binge on more from this author. Holy Mason Hill! Talk about a dimensional anti-hero who I spent most of this book hating...maybe I love him a little too. He's out to avenge the death of his parents and plans to use Charlotte as his primary weapon to do it. What he wasn't expecting was for Charlotte to turn his world upside down.

"He sent his daughter to face my wrath. She'll be my revenge. She'll be the person I carry it out on. Her family's sacrifice.
There's no disappointment, really.
It will be even sweeter this way."

Let's just say, the plot for this book reminded me of the film Indecent Proposal, minus Woody Harrelson. The author kept a great balance of the push an pull here between these characters. Mason is convinced that if he hurts Caroline, he'll gain his hugely sought after revenge over her father, and that it'll afford him the closure he needs. Charlotte is 20 years old and she's very innocent. She's been thrown into the middle of her family's mess. She wants to do the right thing, even if it costs her.

There were a few times that Charlotte and her devout loyalty to her family kind of irked me, especially at the end. I get that she is young and maybe it is hard for me to put myself in her shoes but...the writing was on the dang wall, chick. There's loyalty and then there's denial. Her internal monologues kind of got repetitive for me too.

I would love to see her character come back swinging in Hostile Takeover.

One thing that is noteworthy, I loved and super appreciated how the business references in this book were detailed and accurate. I cannot tell you how rare this is! So many times, the big business mogul billionaire has no f*cking idea what he's talking about, over simplifies, and glosses over ALL the details when it comes to the business dealings in the book. Being someone who works in the business field, it's insulting. That was not the case here.

This is a slow burn at first but once the heat kicked in, it was sexy AF! I really don't know what to say about the steam in this book actually. I guess I felt kind of like Charlotte. I know I wasn't supposed to like it...but I did.

"Tell me, sweet thing, do you regret signing this pussy over to me? Are you sad that no other man will be able to hurt you first?"

This is the start to what will surely be a great series and I am here for it! I am interested in knowing more about Mason's siblings too. Especially Jameson! Can't wait to see where the story goes from here after that ending!

Recommend this one to all revenge trope lovers and fans of alphahole heroes.

"“A piece of advice, Ms. Van Kempt.”
“What? What?” Breathless. I fucking love it.
“If I give you the choice to walk away from me, take it. This is the last time I’ll give you a second chance.”
