It probably says something about me that I was completely willing to suspend my disbelief about the world and the sa-khui (who are conveniently ribbed everywhere for the pleasure of human women), but ended up rolling my eyes so hard when a spaceship AI beams knowledge of an entire new language into our heroine's brain. I guess that's where I draw the line in this completely over the top, unrealistic, alien scifi romance.

I do understand the appeal if you like the tropes this series is known for. The book is short, it's easy to read, and despite the very grim beginning, the sa-khui seem to be pretty fluffy in general. I could see myself picking up more books in this series if I was in the mood for something that's very steamy and quick to read, but it's probably not one I'll read in its entirety.
