Sometimes you need to find some joy in the world. Sometimes you need to be reminded that there are good people out there, quietly trying to do right. This a great book for that. James Herriot portrays goodness in a way that can't be faked. He's also quite funny. It's a book about animals and veterinary medicine, but I don't think you have to be an animal lover to love these stories. Wonderful.
