This book really took me back in time, and made me forget the modern world existed. It was difficult to get into at first, but that wasn't the writer's fault, rather the narrator. The magic system was interesting and had good boundaries and limitations that evaded any chance at a plot hole.

Writing *****
The writing was fantastic. The author truly made Elinor feel and speak like a lady of her era. Additionally, the story was highly intriguing, and by the time I had made it halfway through, it became difficult to put down.

Characters *****
The characters were all well developed. Elinor also showed growth throughout the story, and truly became a strong, independent woman.

Narrator ****
At first, I had a hard time listening, because the narrator had a pattern in her manner of speaking that seemed unnatural to normal conversations, and much of the dialogue and characters had no personality added to them. Some of the initial conversations were dull. After a while, I finally got used to it and was able to fully engage in the story. Nonetheless, I'd say that the narrator truly sounded like a British Lady, so she had the right tone.
