The Black Angels: The Untold Story of the Nurses Who Helped Cure Tuberculosis

Gorgeously written, gripping, character-driven. Edna, Missouria, and the other heroic Black nurses at Seaview Hospital lost to history come alive on the pages of THE BLACK ANGELS. I knew little about tuberculosis and the way hospitals insidiously segregated patients and staff in the first half of the 20th century. This story has resonance with the inequities in our global health care system today. Consider this book as a gift for anyone who enjoys narrative nonfiction on the level of Erik Larson or Nathaniel Philbrick.
