“You’re so beautiful when you cry, Havoc,” Logan’s voice sang in my head.

Havoc Saint is a gold pack omega who just killed Logan, one of her alphas. Seeing as she is a scent match for Logan’s pack, the police let the pack decide what to do with her, and they decide to take her home until they talk about it as a pack. The rest of the pack met her for the first time when she arrived at their home after killing their pack leader, so it’s putting it mildly to say that they hate her, but at the same time, she is their scent match, making is really hard to resist her. As they spend more time with her, and some flashbacks are revealed, we understand better what happened between Logan and her, and what pushed her to kill him in cold blood.

“I waited every night…” I tried to throw the words at him with hatred, but they just sounded as weak and pathetic as they were. He was all wrong. He wasn’t supposed to hurt me… “Y-you were supposed… to save me.”

The first 20% of the book was confusing, and I pushed through because I loved the author’s Sweetheart duology so much, I wanted to give this one a “fair chance”, but it took a while for me to get invested in the story. After the 20% mark though, the pace is good, and the story is engaging enough for this book to be a quick read despite being over 500 pages. Overall, it was an intriguing concept, but the execution was weak in some parts, and the first 100 pages felt chaotic.

I really like Havoc, she is cute and naïve, without seeming too childlike or immature. She lived a very sheltered life and has to navigate the reality of a big city now, with the movies she watched as a kid as her only referent. It created some funny moments, but again, she never felt like a child, simply a little naïve or unaware of some social basic skills, which made her cute and likable.

She was worried about Caspian, I knew that, but she didn’t understand something. The more you pissed Caspian off, the more likely he was to fall in love with you. … Or kill you.

The alphas were okay I guess… Honestly, I didn’t like them that much. I liked Kai’s intensity and slightly unhinged side, but I would have liked to know more about his power and his past. The 4 alphas all felt pretty shallow, despite us getting information about them and their past. I just never really connected with them. Caspian’s sudden change of heart annoyed me, and the fact that his shitty behavior was forgiven without any true groveling was disappointing too.

The pack of alpha was dysfunctional, as is often the case with these types of books, but contrary to Pack Darling of the Sweetheart duology, I didn’t feel true bonds or connection between the alphas here. Kai and Angel love each other, and it showed, but despite being told that Kai and Caspian shared a past and were like brothers, I didn’t feel it. Bane felt like a random addition that didn’t fit at all with the rest of the pack, and nobody made any effort to get to know him in all the years they’d been together. They didn’t just feel like a broken pack trying to save themselves, they felt like a bunch of random people living together because Logan brought them together, but having no interest in being together.

Overall, this was not my favorite book from this author, but I will still read her other works because I like the angst and the slightly different world-building she created with the different bonds and the gold pack omegas. It’s not a bad book at all, but I feel that it needs some extra editing maybe to render the plot less confusing in the first part of the book, and the love interests more likable in general.
