it was ok

This book was seriously overhyped. I could not wait to get my hands on it after seeing it all over BookTok. I waited a month or more to get it from my local library. By the time I got it, I knew the reviews were extremely mixed. However, some people LOVED it, so I gave it a chance. Ugh. I really wish I hadn’t. I got nothing from this story. I didn’t feel invested in it or the characters at all. The first 50-100 pages made it seem like it had great potential, but it ultimately turned into a bad spy movie script. I believe the writer is a YA author, and this was her adult fiction/thriller debut. The writing felt really juvenile and I just couldn’t emotionally connect to anything in this story. Laughably unrealistic, corny, chaotic, jumbled, confusing…I can’t really think of anything positive to say about this book. This is the seventh book I’ve read in 2024, and by far my least favorite. I’m so glad I’m done reading it.
