3 ⭐️ It had its moment
"If I can't stand you, then why has my only thought of every minute of every day for the last week been me wondering what it would feel like to fuck you?"
WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ contemporary romance
✨ he's a cocky, hockey player superstar
✨ she's a flight attendant on his team’ private plane
✨ forced proximity
✨ insta lust
✨ hate to love
✨ forbidden romance
✨ "one night only"
✨ he falls first and hard
✨ height difference
✨ 3/5 spice (open door and explicit)
✨ entertaining banter
✨ curvy FMC
✨ family drama
✨ found family
✨ POC rep
✨ TW: body image issues, emotionally abusive ex, panic attacks, mommy and daddy issues, abandonment issues
My Thoughts:
I like the writing, the banter, and the smut. It wasn’t a bad story. But it felt like a never ending therapy session. 🙄 I didn’t really love either MC and their family and personal dramas were talked about so much that it felt like they were beating a dead horse.
Also, the fact one of Stevie's defining characteristics is her disheveled look annoyed the hell out of me. It wasn't just a passing note. No. It was constantly brought up during her inner dialogue where she would think "I look gross in my thin, stained, and worn out sweatpants and have no makeup on and dirty hair, but I don't care", but then she would have insecurities about how she looks. It was super contradicting. Also, being smelly and wearing ratty clothes isn't something to pride yourself in if you have the means to do something about it.
Additionally, the fact Stevie never told her brother, who is apparently her best friend (no wait, only friend), what her ex/his friend said about her is not believable. And why doesn't this girl have any girl friends? She went to college but the only girls we see that she hangs out with one time are mean girls from high school.
It just seemed like Stevie's character had a lot of issues that were only there to make her stand apart from others and create problems.
Oh, and the third act breakup was dumb. I hate when one MC thinks breaking up is best for the other person, only for them to realize they fucked up. 🙄 This was especially dumb since the dumper had gone to therapy for almost a decade. He should definitely have reacted better to the conflict that led to the breakup.
I will say, do like how Liz Tomforde writes though, so I think I will at least try the next book in the series. Hopefully, I'll enjoy the characters and their dynamic more.
