Fishface | 17650 comments ...Because a day without a crime anniversary is like a day without a maniac chasing you with a knife!

Fishface | 17650 comments New Year's Day is full of sorry episodes to remember:

This is the day Devin Howell killed Melanie Camilini. For reasons best known to himself, he slept with her ravaged remains for the next 2 weeks before moving on to some other pursuit. See His Garden: Conversations With A Serial Killer.

Juan Kimbrough convinced his brother to shoot him, believing that a D&D "dungeon master" is bulletproof. He wasn't. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
In another fairly odd crime, racist skinhead Erik Banks was shot and killed by Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice (SHARP) member John Bair. The killer got 5 years in prison and had to pay Banks's family $4,606 in restitution. The racist skinheads were not pleased, to put it mildly. See A Hundred Little Hitlers: The Death of a Black Man, the Trial of a White Racist, and the Rise of the Neo-Nazi Movement in America.

Erik
Ruby Jean Doss was murdered. The case went cold, but not forever. See https://www.spokesman.com/stories/201...

Meredith Emerson fell prey to Gary Michael Hilton. See 9http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/03/10/m...

John Doe #2 was found in the notorious Hog Trails case. See https://murderpedia.org/male.C/c/cona...
Patricia Coleman was found dead on this day in 1984. Exactly one year later, sister victim Frankie Bell was murdered. See the "Southside Slayer" section of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
This is once again the anniversary of the day John WAYNE Wilson killed Roseann Quinn, in a disgraceful episode that was later fictionalized into Looking for Mr. Goodbar. See the true story in Closing Time: The True Story of the "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" Murder.

the killer in custody

A family of 4 got an unlooked-for New Year's Day bonus when they escaped being killed by Francis Nemechek. See https://murderpedia.org/male.N/n/neme...
And both Kim Edmiston and Calvin Crippen escaped Joe Christopher with their lives. The police did not take their reports very seriously. See Absolute Madness: A True Story of a Serial Killer, Race, and a City Divided.

Fishface | 17650 comments I cannot believe this frikkin site. It wiped out my first and second posts for this year when I was almost through typing them, and now it just wiped out the third. Nevertheless, I persist.

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/2 is the anniversary of the day Larry Little successfully fought off Joe Christopher. See, again, Absolute Madness: A True Story of a Serial Killer, Race, and a City Divided.
Stacey Gage died untimely. See https://www.wesh.com/article/daytona-...

Mir Hussain was stabbed to death at his job. The case has not been cleared in the 16 years since it happened. Edmonton police are waiting for your call. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

We lost Rita Nelson to a necrophilac strangler. See Murder with a Difference.
Richard Stean was gunned down. When Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2 went to press, this case was unsolved, but look here: https://www.nytimes.com/1972/06/21/ar...
Shirley Stewart died violently. See Mad City: The True Story of the Campus Murders That America Forgot.
Dorothy Eggers was found dead. Most of her was found, anyway. See 45 Murderers: A Collection of True Crime Stories.

Carl, Thelma, Ronald, Gary and Pamela Mosser and their dog all died, pretty much out of nowhere. See The Mosser Massacre: The Southwest's Greatest Manhunt.

message 5: by Fishface (last edited Jan 07, 2020 05:39AM) (new)

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/3 is a very sad anniversary for me. We lost my very favorite Manson Family associate and Spahn's Movie Ranch employee, Juan Flynn. See Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders.

Donovan Swartz died, more or less on this day, at the hands of Norman Simons, an apparently kindly schoolteacher working through some issues. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story

Willy Maas died of poisoning at the hands of Sjef Rijke. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
John Leras, called "Skates" on Randy Kraft's scorecard, died a horrific death on this day in 1975. One year to the day later, someone found the battered body of Mark Hall. If there was any doubt about when he died, his notation on the same scorecard -- "New Year's Eve" -- made everything clear. See Angel of Darkness: The True Story of Randy Kraft and the Most Heinous Murder Spree.
Ilse Brandt, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, was taken out by her own son, Charlie. See Invisible Killer: The Monster Behind the Mask.
Paul Runge killed Stacy Frobel. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.
Walter Byers and his wife and son were killed with a hatchet. See Sacrificial Axe: Voodoo Cult Slayings in the Deep South.
We lost Lubie Geter to the Atlanta Child Murderer. See The List.

And Timothy McCoy died horribly at the hands of John WAYNE Gacy. See Buried Dreams: Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer.

Finally, a really clear photo of him!

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/4 is the day Stanley Bernson killed Diane Remington. I have no doubt she deserved better. See https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-no...
Ruth Anne O'Neil, whose Christmas presents had just been stolen from her family's home in a mysterious break-in, was herself waylaid and killed -- by the very same burglar. See https://ididitforjodie.com/2017/04/24...

An unnamed victim of Moses Sithole was found. I hope that by now they have put a name to the poor creature. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
This is the approximate day Norman Simons killed Jeremy Benjamin. See, again, Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
We also lost Mary Bjornson. See https://murderpedia.org/male.C/c/cana...
David Bullock killed Eric Fuller. See https://www.nytimes.com/1982/10/27/ny...
We also lost Belinda Hutchens, in an unusually cruel way. See Hangman: Life and Crimes of Serial Killer & Police Officer Gerard Schaefer.

Belinda, R, with sister victim Candy Hallock
Ronald Cabo died a hideous death at the hands of "Mr. Gaybar." See https://www.nytimes.com/1973/01/18/ar...

Lyndon Pace killed Johnnie Mae Martin. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/5 is the day Mona Tinsley lost her life to Frederick Nodder. See The Child Killers.

Tammy Scretchings died a horrible death at the hands of the Southside Slayer. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
We also lost Sandra Postell. See https://www.nytimes.com/1973/09/09/ar...
Eleven rest-home residents died in a fire deliberately set by Bruce Lee. No, the other Bruce Lee. See, again, Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Tammy Williams died too soon. See The Man in the Monster: An Intimate Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Ernst Speiker died a hideous death, and the indignities didn't stop there. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
Picknickers found the pitiful remains of Collette Goodenough and Barbara Wilcox. See Hangman: Life and Crimes of Serial Killer & Police Officer Gerard Schaefer.

I think the two photos at upper R are of the unlucky girls

We also lost Lee Gooch, for a while there anyway. He was originally thought to have been killed by the Atlanta Child Murderer, but the author of The List, Chet Dettlinger, later found him alive and well.

message 8: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/6 is the anniversary of the day we lost Rollande Asselin-Beaucage to Serge Archambault, a bad actor if there ever was one. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
Melissa Munch fell prey to Thomas Svekla. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

Joe Christopher, still enlisted in the Army at this point, got busted for slashing a fellow GI. The victim, needless to say, was black. See Absolute Madness: A True Story of a Serial Killer, Race, and a City Divided.
We lost Sunny Thach to the Nut Cases gang. Two other intended victims got away alive, luckily. See https://murderpedia.org/male.R/r/rall...

Faye Yearby was found tied to a tree after her murder, in circumstances so similar to the death of Angel Lenair that Chet Dettlinger said in The List that they must have been committed by the same guy.
This is once again the anniversary of the horrid death of Evelyn Foster at Wolf's Nick. See The Burning of Evelyn Foster.

message 9: by Fishface (last edited Jan 08, 2020 10:09AM) (new)

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/7 is the day we lost Harold and Shirley Dresbach to their son WAYNE. Harold had been ventilated with 6 bullets -- one or two of them apparently aimed to go right up Main Street after he fell facedown on the floor. Shirley was naked as a jaybird and her husband was unclothed from the waist down. Based on what I read in Life for Death, this was probably just a normal morning for them, roaming the house naked in front of their kids.

(these are almost all the photos I could find on this very old case -- they're in the 2nd row down)
We lost Elino Sprinkle, on approximately this day, to the Station Strangler. I have no doubt that as usual, he was anally raped and left facedown on the ground with his hands tied behind his back. It was a bit of a signature for this killer. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
Elaine Scott was taken from us in a scenario so upsetting that it appeared in the pages of Torture Killers II.

Mauricio Silva killed the unlucky Troy Crovella. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Image linky: https://www.facebook.com/TodayInHorro...
Timothy Dean was waylaid and killed exactly one year ago today. Spellcheck keeps trying to change his name to "Timothy Dead," and the coincidence only underscores the wrongness if you ask me. See https://www.losangelesblade.com/2019/...

Ronald Gray killed the unsuspecting Kimberly Ruggles. See https://militaryjusticeforall.com/198...

The police caught Earl Daughtrey in the act of strangling Brenda Debruhal, saving her life and ending his murder series on the spot. It was a beautiful moment that all of us should remember. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

This is also the day they executed Theo Durrant. He protested his innocence all the way to the gallows. See The Girl in the Belfry.

message 10: by Fishface (last edited Jan 11, 2020 12:23PM) (new)

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/8 is the day we lost Halle Cox, Cecil Dotson, Marissa Williams, Hollis Seals, Shindri Roberson, and Cemario and Cecil Dotson II to Cecil's brother Jessie, after an argument. It was a wild overreaction and a good example of why some people should not be allowed to carry guns. See https://fruitloopspod.com/2018/12/06/...

(a survivor of the massacre, 3-mo-old Ceniyah Dotson, in ICU after the killings)
But wait! There was another atrocious mass murder on this day! Scott Bennett, Rodolfo Ayan, Nicomedes Hernandez and John Merino all lost their lives in one fell swoop. See Torture Killers II.
We lost Elaine Witte to her grandson, John Witte, and his trusty crossbow. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime, or try the whole book on the case by Clifford Linedecker, Blood Money.
We lost Monique Pitre, probably to good old Thomas Svekla. But to see a table graph of confounding factors that cast doubt on any conclusions drawn from this case, see Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Orville Majors killed Luella Hopkins. See Cold Blooded Care.
Claude Lastennet killed the unlucky Violette De Ferluc. See https://murderpedia.org/male.L/l/last...
Maria Fasching died a terrifying death. See The Door-To-Door Killer.

Donald McNiven and P.W. Beardsley both died at the hands of a man we know only as "Mr. Gaybar." See https://ididitforjodie.com/2014/10/21...

Donald McNiven

P.W. Beardsley

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/9 is the day in 1900 that they executed Louise Massett. See Trial of Louise Masset.

(the contented smile is TOTALLY out of keeping)
This is the approximate day someone found Yussuf Hoffmann dead. It was the Station Strangler again. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
Pauline Brazeau was found dead, halfway around the world from poor Yussuf. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2 under "Highway."

Roxene Roggash came to a terrible end. See LIST OF 10: The True Story of Serial Killer Joseph Naso.

This is also the day they hanged Frederick Bywaters and Edith Thompson for killing Edith's husband, Percy Thompson. See Trial of Frederick Bywaters and Edith Thompson.

L to R: Frederick, Edith, Percy

This is the approximate day the Station Strangler killed Mario Thomas. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
And it's the exact day Stewart Wilken killed Mercia Papenfus. See The Evil Within.
Paul Runge killed the unlucky Dorota Dzubiak. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.

(Dorota is the really hard-to-make-out one, on the far R in the top row of this lineup)

In better news, this is the day a couple escaped serial killer Roy Mitchell with their lives. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.
And a 15-year-old boy escaped Frank Davis with his life. Not everyone was that lucky. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

message 13: by Fishface (last edited Jan 19, 2020 01:05PM) (new)

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/11 is the day Tom Sullivan Jr. killed his mom, set his house on fire and then killed himself. His dad and brother got away alive, but still. A copy of Anton LaVey's The Satanic Bible was found in Tommy's room. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime. Or, for something a little more florid, see here: http://colinjmccracken.com/the-devil-... AND, for a total reframe suggesting Tommy isn't the one who's the problem here, see https://www.nickperon.com/trouble-cit...

John Hilyar, or Hillyer, was killed in front of witnesses by Michael and Suzan Carson. The police caught them the same day but it was too late for John. See Cry For War: The Story of Suzan and Michael Carson.
Joseph Brant killed Jody Johnson, who probably deserved better that this. I mean, who doesn't? See https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...

We lost Fabian Wilmore and Owen Hoffman on the same day, at the same time, to the same child-raping serial killer. You guessed it: the Station Strangler again. See https://truecrimesouthafrica.com/blog...
Carlos Mejia was killed by parties unknown, who left him full of stab wounds on his bedroom floor. The RCMP await your call. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

This is the anniversary of the last time anyone except Bill Roy Tame saw Brenda McClenaghan alive. Her car was found a few days later, locked and empty except for her jeans, which were turned inside out. See, again, Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.
This is already the 38th anniversary of the day we lost Shanda Sharer to a group of girlfiends. I just mistyped "girlfriend" but I think I will leave the typo to stand. See -- frig it all, the search isn't working again! -- wait, it's back! -- Cruel Sacrifice.

This is the day Vernon Butts finally succeeded at killing himself in his cell, on the 5th try. He gets an A for persistence in doing one thing right, although in all other areas of his life he's an F-. See Born to Kill: the William Bonin Story.

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/12 is the day we lost Rhonda Dunn to a man who went on a killing spree after he blew a gasket at a hooker he hired, who turned out to be a man. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.

Marie Warner and her 3 children were killed in their beds. See Sacrificial Axe: Voodoo Cult Slayings in the Deep South.
Cynthia Westbury and Juanita Walls were found dead. See the "Maryland" section of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Kathleen Maloney was strangled to death as her killer raped her. She was almost certainly already out cold when this happened, but that doesn't make it THAT much better. See Crime Archive: John Christie.

Kathleen, "before"

(Kathleen, "after" -- she was one of the three dead women found in Reggie's kitchen cupboard. I have the impression she is the shrouded body pictured at R, but don't quote me.)
Lawrence Reese was shot dead by Joseph Franklin. See https://criminalminds.fandom.com/wiki...
Patrick Mackay, a loose cannon if there ever was one, killed Stephanie Britton and her 4-year-old grandson, Christopher. See Psychopath: The Case of Patrick MacKay.

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/13 is the anniversary of the day Reyna Marroquin disappeared, along with her unborn child. This state of affairs would not last forever; sooner or later the killer was going to have to sell his house. Alas for him, he made the mistake of disposing of her body in the same place as he did her address book. See https://forensicfilesnow.com/index.ph...

This is the approximate day we lost Jeremy Smith to the Station Strangler. See https://murderpedia.org/male.S/s/simo...
This is the exact day Angela Wilkerson was found dead. See, again, the "Maryland" section of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

(Jack, is that you..?)

Joseph Franklin killed Thomas Watkins. See Dark Soul of the South: The Life and Crimes of Racist Killer Joseph Paul Franklin.

Craig Jonaitis was added to Randy Kraft's scorecard with the notation "Golden Sails." See Angel of Darkness: The True Story of Randy Kraft and the Most Heinous Murder Spree.
Robert Hayes killed Julie Green. I think in the photo below she looks just like Gilda Radner if she were completely raddled by drugs and street life. See https://www.news965.com/news/local/po...

(Julie's in the middle)

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/18 is the day we lost Shari Hull to the depredations of Randy Woodfield. Lisa Garcia remarkably escaped alive and called 911. The dispatcher did not believe her claim that she'd been shot twice in the head, but when the EMTs got there it turned out to be true. See The I-5 Killer, where she is called Beth Wilmot.
Bonnie Brown died at the hands of Paul Sargent. For the details of this sorry crime, see Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.

Fishface | 17650 comments 1/19 is the day we lost Sheila Shrock to a guy named Oliver Andrews. In the fullness of time, Oliver went to prison for killing her, based on the testimony of a man who apparently saw the crime go down while he was out shovelling snow. Regardless of all this hard fact, she is listed as a possible victim of the Oakland County Child Killer in Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.
Faryion Wardrip definitely killed Toni Gibbs. See A Rapist In The Church.

Marie, Pearl, Harriet and Garey Warner were killed with a hatchet as they slept. It almost goes without saying that they were victims of the Sacrificial Axe: Voodoo Cult Slayings in the Deep South.
Carole Voyce died a terrifying death at the hands of an older child. See By Reason of Insanity: The David Michael Krueger Story.

Carole in situ at the crime scene

Tania Murrell was killed. The RCMP awaits your call. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

Felix Broussard and his wife and 5 kids became the latest victims of the God Sacrifice Church. See Sacrificial Axe: Voodoo Cult Slayings in the Deep South.

Nathaneal Bar-Jonah ended the life of Zachary Ramsay, pretty cruelly I would say. See Eat the Evidence: A Journey Through the Dark Boroughs of a Pedophilic Cannibal's Mind.

Henry Roan was killed in a pretty cold fashion, out of pure greed. See Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.

In the most interesting anniversary of the day, Ernest Brown hanged for killing his boss and setting him on fire in his parked car. The fire spread to all the buildings on the victim's property, leaving his family homeless on top of everything else. When asked if he had anything else to get off his chest before they sent him to his maker, the convict uttered 3 syllables that could have been "ought to burn" or possibly "Otterburn." Otterburn was the site of an unsolved murder that involved a taxi driver being set on fire in her parked car. See The Burning of Evelyn Foster.

Fishface | 17650 comments 2/7 is a day of horrible, extended suffering that usually ended in death.
Eldon Anson finally died, after valiant efforts by EMTs and hospital staff and an impressive fight put up by the victim himself. You can probably do only so much when a guy has been shot 6 times and clobbered 6 more times with an axe. See Fear No Evil.

Delores Wells, who had been held captive for some time by Bill Benefiel and tortured in a variety of horrific ways, finally died when he Superglued her mouth and nose shut. See Torture Killers.
Omar Orea Ochoa, imprisoned for his role in the Matamoros ritual murders described in Buried Secrets: A True Story of Drug Running, Black Magic, and Human Sacrifice, died in his cell of AIDS while awaiting trial. That seems pretty fair to me.
Jane Gibson -- or was her name Easton? -- died of the cancer that forced her to testify to the murder she witnessed from a gurney rolled into the courtroom. See Fatal Tryst: Who Killed the Minister and the Choir Singer?

Gloria Fravel fell prey to serial killer (and former police officer) Jack Sully. He was a lot more merciful with his other victims -- if you can call murder merciful -- but in Gloria's case he thought she wanted torturing, so he hung her up by the neck for a few days, doing horrific things to her until he finally finished her off. See https://www.sfweekly.com/news/yesterd...
This is also the day that Edith Toro, who had just started working the night shift in a home for wayward girls, was stripped of most of her clothes, roughed up, tortured, doused with alcohol and set on fire by residents Angenika Carter, Erica Mateo, Crystal Silver, Takiyah Miller, Lidia Orellana, Nicole Infante, Mary Brown, and Latoya Barcliff. Remarkably, she survived. All 8 of the felonious lasses were busted for attempted murder. See Seventeen Real Girls, Real-Life Stories: True Crime.

We lost Nancy Kinghammer to James Ruzicka. See https://murderpedia.org/male.R/r/ruzi...

They finally found Beauty Soko. It was too late to help her, thanks entirely to Moses Sithole. See The Top Serial Killers Of Our Time (Volumes 1, 2, 3 & 4): True Crime Committed By The World's Most Notorious Serial Killers. (Good old Mose can be found in Volume 2.)
We lost Michelle Moore to Joseph Beeson and Edward Bennett. Derrick Franklin escaped with his life. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
This is also the day we lost Tiffany Sessions. See

This is the anniversary of the day William Etherington, Benjamin Carrier, L.M. King, John Thomas, James Masengle and John Rogers were shot dead by police during a riot outside the courthouse where they were trying Will Lockett for murder. 50 others were injured but lived. See Death at the Court-House. (The new book on this case refused to come up using the search box, for some reason.)
Carol Ann Dudley was found dead. See under the names of her parents, Kenneth Dudley and Irene Gwynne, in Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.
It's the anniversary of the last day anyone saw any member of the Haven family alive. Months later, Albert, Lulia, Daniel, Leland, Charles and Mary Haven -- ranging from 59 years to 2 months old -- were found dead around the property where they lived and farmed. See End of the Rope: The True Story of North Dakota's Last Lynching.

An 11-year-old boy vanished and was found a few hours later, drugged insensible by WAYNE Garrison. See https://www.tulsaworld.com/archive/ju...
Kim Leach was seen being bundled into a van by a scruffy-looking man outside her middle school. An onlooker thought she must have been in trouble with her dad because she seemed so upset. See The Last Murder: The Investigation, Prosecution, and Execution of Ted Bundy.

It's the anniversary of the day Maura Murray vanished. See True Crime Addict: How I Lost Myself in the Mysterious Disappearance of Maura Murray.

My favorite crime anniversary on this day remains the sorry incident in which Myrlene Severe was busted at the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida airport with a human head in her carry-on. Haiti was happy to let her buy it, because it's quite legal there, but it's contraband here in the USA. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4...

Fishface | 17650 comments 2/10 is the day we lost Rebecca Boutilier to a man still known only as the Calgary Prostitute Killer. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

This is also the last day anyone saw a certain young lady alive at an inn owned by the Laborde family. Martin Dumollard claimed she was his niece. She almost certainly went the way of his other unnamed victims. We know this because after they retired for the night, his "niece" was seen fleeing for her life from the inn, with Dumollard in hot pursuit. See Dumollard, Ou L'Assassin Des Servantes.
Kevin Collins vanished. Jon Dunkle was considered a fairish suspect for a while there, but in the years since suspicion has fallen instead on a lovely fellow named WAYNE Jackson. See either The Boy Next Door or https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/201...

Cammelia Carroll was shot 5 times, but survived. The would-be killers were Lisa Dunn, Mark Walter and Danny Remeta. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.

Courtney Schulhoff and her boyfriend killed Courtney's dad, Steve. See Teen Killer Courtney Schulhoff & Other Stories: An anthology of True Crime.

Jeanne Axford French was murdered by someone we know only as the Lipstick Killer. This murder has often been connected to that of the Black Dahlia. Not only was it pretty close in time and place to that killing, but her killer wrote "FnCK YOU B.D." (or was it "FnCK YOU P.D."?) on the poor woman's body. See Corroborating Evidence: The Black Dahlia Murder.

Peter Tobin took Vicky Hamilton from everything and everyone she loved. See Escape from Evil: Married at 17 to a Serial Killer, She's One Victim Who Escaped.

Fishface | 17650 comments 2/11 is the day we lost Virginia Brooks to a man who has gone down in history as the Coast Fiend. See http://malefactorsregister.com/wp/the...

(found a photo of her on the cover of this book -- adding it to the shelves!)
"Vera" Chesney and her mom, Lady Menzies, were killed by Vera's husband, a real dinner winner who went by Donald Chesney but whose real name, unbeknownst to his wife, was Merrett. See Murderer's Moon.

(Vera)

(Lady Menzies -- I can only assume the feller in full regalia next to her is Lord Menzies)
Myra Connors fell prey to Jane Toppan, the killer nurse. See Fatal: The Poisonous Life of a Female Serial Killer.
Barbara Ann Derry, a likely victim of serial killer Warren Forrest, vanished while hitchhiking. She would be found later at a scenic tourist attraction. See https://murderpedia.org/male.F/f/forr...

(the police, searching the woods for signs of D.B. Cooper, were led to this spot when a passerby found a woman's hand. Apparently the hand was NOT Barbara's, but a further search turned up Barbara's pitiful remains. I have no idea what became of the hand.)
Linda Marvin was killed by the Satanic comedy tag team of Danny Remeta, Lisa Dunn and Mark Walter. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
We lost Sally Quintiliano. See https://www.nytimes.com/1983/02/18/ny...\
On the same day a year apart, someone discovered the remains of Patricia Dennis and Lorna Reed. Both killings were attributed to the Southside Slayer in Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2, but that killer turned out later to be at least 3 different guys.
In a rare, really excellent piece of GOOD February crime news, this is the day Alicia Elmore was rescued from Bill Benefiel by the police. See Torture Killers.

(execution bound)

Fishface | 17650 comments Just to give you all an idea of how cruddy February is for crime, I am going to list every single item I have listed in my Book of the Dead for February 14th. It is quite a theme day for horrific mass murders, for one thing. But first the individual killings:

Randy Woodfield killed Julie Reitz. See The I-5 Killer.

Szilagy Emma Ilona died at the hands of Romulus Veres. See Romanian Serial Killers: The Punisher.
Lynette White was taken from us by Jeffrey Gafoor. See https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-141...

David White killed Marjorie Knox. See under "Missing" in Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

Sable Pickett lost her life as well. The killers proved to be a couple of dream dates named Steven Gordon and Frank Cano. See https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2017/...

This is also the day that some of the members of a wedding party found the legs of Monica Leman where her killer, John Lee Fryman, had left them. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
We lost Reeva Steenkamp to her live-in boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius. See BEHIND THE DOOR :The Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp Story.

Someone found a dead woman still known only as "Valentine Sally." See Mad City: The True Story of the Campus Murders That America Forgot.
Pamela Murray died, maybe at the hands of Lesley Warren. See The Babyface Killer.
We lost Sharon Ward, maybe to Willie Pickton. See http://stolenandsilent.weebly.com/mis...

Larry King was shot in his 8th-grade English class for seeming too gay to another student. See Unfinished Lives: Reviving the Memories of LGBTQ Hate Crimes Victims.

We lost Isabella Griffiths to Patrick Mackay. See Psychopath: The Case of Patrick MacKay.

By far the most horrible individual killing on this day -- at least I hope nothing worse has ever happened -- was the time Trooper Ronald Ruecker followed a puzzling trail of jackets and backpacks into a cemetery, where he found Delmar Anholt Jr. digging out the eyes of his hugely-pregnant girlfriend, Tara Lea McCarthy, using his thumbs. She didn't move or make a sound when her eyes popped out of their sockets so the trooper knew she must already be dead. Sure enough, she was punctured through and through with what looked like railroad spikes and she was covered with other injuries. Delmar had convinced himself that their unborn child was the Antichrist. See Torture Killers.

Now on to the massacres:

I'm sure you've all been hearing all week that today is the 2nd anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, which killed 17 people and injured 17 more. Parkland: Birth of a Movement.

Ezequiel Luna, Ruben Garza and Ernesto Diaz were tortured to death by Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo and his band of followers. See Buried Secrets: A True Story of Drug Running, Black Magic, and Human Sacrifice.
Fred Cowan, who had been planning this for some time, decided that the moment was right to kill Joseph Hicks, Frederick Holmes, James Green, Pariyathu Varghese, Joseph Russo, Officer Allen McCleod and himself. See Spree Killers: The world's most notorious gunmen and their deadly rampages.
This is of course the anniversary of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. See The St. Valentine's Day Massacre: The Untold Story of the Gangland Bloodbath That Brought Down Al Capone.

It was also the day of the Hollandsburg Massacre. See Choking in Fear: a memoir about the Hollandsburg murders.

(Betty Spencer, who survived to testify against her sons' killers)

Speaking of survivors, this is the day 2 women in separate incidents escaped Gordon Cummins with their lives. See In the Dark: The True Story of the Blackout Ripper.
And Sheila Comeaux was dragged from her car and beaten with baseball bats. She was a survivor for a year or so, anyway. See Murder in the Bayou: Who Killed the Women Known as the Jeff Davis 8?

And there were some comeuppances on this day, too.
Andrei Chikatilo was taken out and shot. See The Killer Department: Detective Viktor Burakov's Eight-Year Hunt for the Most Savage Serial Killer in Russian History.
Yang Xinhai was executed for 67 murders and 23 rapes. See https://murderpedia.org/male.X/x/xinh...

(one of his mass murders)
WAYNE Boden got life in prison for gnawing several Canadian women to death. See The Dracula Syndrome.

To the chagrin of many later on, William Guatney was born. See Slayer of Innocence.

And you people wonder why I go through so much aspirin.
