*I read Red Rising for my book by an author under 30 and didn't like it very much. I finished it shortly after this book was published and decided it fit my bad reviews category because of my poor opinion of the first one. However, I was surprised. Although there were a lot of the elements that I didn't like about the first book, this book was marginally better. Enough mystery was created that I will probably pick up the last one next year to see how it ends.*

My intention is to pencil these in as complete, because technically the two books fulfil all those categories, but I also feel like that's cheating, and totally against the point of the challenge!

I'm trying one book for category. So I'll read 52 books.
But I have seen many people trying two or more books for category. So they are reading less than 52.
I do think both are totally fine :)

I'm filling in books wherever they fit. I would like to have a different book in each number, but I don't want to be stuck at the end if the year trying to fit things in, so I'm just putting books in as I finish them. I'll probably edit some out as we get to the end of the year.

This isn't school. In fact, I'd like to challenge someone to find a book that fits in the most categories and recommend it to us!

We have lots of members with varying amounts of time to read, so what exactly constitutes a "challenge" may be very different for different people. As long as we're all reading and having a good time, that's all that matters. :)

The search for birth year was helpful. The places search wasn't as great for me. Unfortunately my hometown only has two books on it and they aren't available at my library. I think I'll have to pick some kind of local history book instead.

Well I'm especially having a hard time choosing a book by an author with the same initials (in my case S B), a banned book, and a book with antonyms in the title. Also for the book set during Christmas, I wonder if the whole story must take place during Christmas or is it enough if the Christmas period just appears at some point ?

I fell in love with this reading challenge because it forced me to be creative and journey outside of my reading comfort zone. I have spent lots of time thinking of titles that fit these categories :)

Banned (or challenged) book: There is actually a long list of these to choose from. http://www.ala.org/bbooks/top-100-ban... here is a list of the Top 100 banned/challenged books from 200-2009. That website has other years that are also listed. Personally I read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I think any banned or challenged book should count because this particular category.

Christmas: I would say that as long as Christmas is a focal point in the book then it counts. For example, every Harry Potter book has a Christmas scene, but personally, I wouldn't count it. That decision is entirely up to you though. I know that most books stores/libraries will start promoting Christmas titles closer to the holidays. So you can always get ideas then. I was originally going to read Matchless: A Christmas Story which is supposed to be a retelling of the Matchstick Girl. But then I picked up Landline. It was a fantastic book that took built up to Christmas Day. I didn't know that the book was going to even match a category on my list! I just discovered this author this year and fell in love with her writing and have read all but one of her books so far! If I come across other titles I will definitely let you know. (Also, I think that if the holiday that is dissucssed is based in another world, but is totally supposed to be that world's version of Christmas, then it would count. Example: in Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West they celebrate Lurlinemas, that's totally Christmas)

A Cat Called Dog (I guess not technically antonyms, but I'd count it!)

If you use the "add book/author," you can type in two antonyms and it will bring up titles that goodreads thinks match!

Initals: The only ones I can think of are Stephen Baxter and Sandra Brown. Two more resources: go to your "My Books" and select "All." From there you can sort by author and check out what you have read and want to read to see if you already have an author listed. or you can go to http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/ and select "B." It will bring up a list of all the websites authors whose last name starts with B and then you try to find someone you like there.

That's the same reason why I decided to try this challenge too.

Landline seems very nice, I'll have to check if it's available in my country. I also thought about reading the Letters from Father Christmas by Tolkien because I'm very curious about it, but that would mean staying in my comfort zone. Well maybe if I can't find Landline I'll still do that :)
