LAB RAT takes place in a laboratory where giant rats are doing experiments on human beings, specifically you! Ratkenstein, a doctoral student in the field of human intelligence, has tasked you with completing a series of tests. If you succeed, he can finally write his dissertation. If you fail, he’s going to put you and your friends in the old test-subject chipper!

AWArds

Lab Rat was ranked the 8th best escape room in the world the year it came out (TERPECA), and has remained in the top 100 ever since. It also received the prestigious Golden Lock Award from Room Escape Artist, and was LA Magazine’s best escape room in Los Angeles in 2019

delicious praise

This gets our vote for the current #1 Escape Room in Los Angeles. Every part of this room is special, with immersive storytelling, impressive engineering, a custom soundtrack, and back-to-back memorable moments. A few of the puzzles were among the most creative we’ve seen in any room ever. Each puzzle had a memorable finish and many were tied together with the set in delightful ways. We can’t recommend this room enough.

How grand, genius and silly this escape room was...It felt like very inch of this immersive escape room was used one way or another...it was a 5+/5 room and I have never given a 5+ rating.
— GTFO.blog
Lab Rat was room 207 for me, and probably the best I’ve ever played. Certainly the best room in Los Angeles. Beautifully designed, creative puzzles, and even a story that will make you laugh as it carries you through the hour long escape.
— Elan L, Yelp
Such high-production value, obsessive attention to detail, and deceptively challenging puzzles set this attraction apart from the many other escape rooms. It’s one of the best in the world, not just the city.
— LA Magazine
I don’t know what all of these people are talking about... Lab Rat is NOT an escape room – it’s the place I carry out my research into human intelligence. And I wish people would stop escaping from it.

FAQ

This FAQ applies only to Lab Rat. Please find a general Hatch FAQ here.

  • In Lab Rat you’ll be given hints to ensure you get through the whole story in the time allotted (unless you loudly demand otherwise). As long as you trust us to pilot your experience, you’ll have an amazing time! Beginners and enthusiast alike enjoy Lab Rat.

  • Lab Rat has a 4-player booking minimum, meaning you are welcome to come as a team of 2-3, but you’ll pay for the minimum of 4 players. Just know that Lab Rat is more of a challenge for smaller groups—we think 4-8 participants is ideal.

  • Lab Rat is about 75 minutes top to bottom. There are 60 minutes of game play. The other 10-15 minutes account for some other fun stuff!

  • The minimum age to play Lab Rat is 8 years old. We will turn away groups with younger players. All minors (players under the age of 18) must be accompanied by at least 1 adult.

If a group of minors comes to play, there must be 1 adult present per every 5 minors. For example, if there are up to 5 minors, 1 adult must attend the experience. If there are 6 or more minors, 2 adults must attend the experience.

(Babies may join their parents so long as they remain in a hands-free carrier for the whole experience.)

  • None of our games have horror elements. Any ‘intense’ moments in Lab Rat are played for laughs. There is no gore, serious jump scares, or complete darkness.

Also, you are never actually locked in. You can leave at any time through the clearly marked emergency exits.

  • Lab Rat requires participants to stand for extended periods of time.

Some puzzles require physical mobility, but nothing a team of 2 hasn’t been able to handle.

  • Lab Rat is accessible for most chair users. The narrowest passage is 28” wide, which may be too narrow for some Full-Size Power chairs. Chair users may need a teammate’s help to reach elements of games and puzzles. There is only one narrow section that cannot be physically accessed via wheelchair, though chair users can still participate in all puzzle solving.

Lab Rat includes bright changing lights as well as moments of darkness. Guests with sensory limitations may encounter moments of overstimulation.
