Kauai Activities and Attractions

Nicknamed the "Garden Isle," Kauai is the lushest of all the Hawaiian islands. And not only is it very green, but it is also home to beautiful white-sand beaches framed by swaying coconut palms – many consider it a picture-perfect tropical island. Kauai activities range from land-based tours and excursions to a wide variety of ocean activities.

Hawaii Discount offers a huge selection of activities and tours, so you are sure to find what you are looking for. Our discounts help you save on your favorite things to do on the island. Check out the popular activities below, or find the activity of your choice in our detailed list on the right.

Kauai Activities and Things to Do

A fun thing to do that's unique to Kauai is a bicycle tour down Waimea Canyon. This tour takes you through both Koke'e State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park. Ride down the scenic Waimea Canyon Drive all the way to the blue Pacific. Along the way you'll enjoy views of Kauai's south shore and the "Forbidden Isle" of Niihau on the horizon.

Kauai is home to Hawaii's largest and only navigable freshwater river. Wailua River journey is fun for the entire family. You can either join a guided kayaking trip up the river, or alternatively, go on a boat cruise. The destination is Fern Grotto, a fern-covered lava cave that you can explore. Because of its amazing acoustics, music is often times being played inside the cave, and it is also a popular wedding location.

One of the top visitor attractions on Kauai is the Na Pali Coast, which stretches for 16 miles along Kauai's north shore. Even if you’re on Kauai for only a few days, this is one of the must-see locations. Since this is a remote part of the island that's inaccessible by car, the only way to see it is by taking a helicopter, a shoreline cruise or a kayaking adventure. If you're in good physical condition you can also opt to hike here. The 11-mile long Kalalau Trail is great for hiking enthusiasts.

If you like fishing, Kauai is the only Hawaiian island where you can choose between saltwater and freshwater fishing. Come aboard a deep sea fishing charter and head to the island’s prime big game fishing grounds and fish for Blue Marlin, Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna), Ono (Wahoo) or Mahi Mahi (Dorado). Or do some freshwater fishing on the 523-acre Waita Reservoir.

Perfect for adventure seekers is tubing, a fun wilderness activity that's unique to Kauai. Hop on a tube and drift down gently flowing canals and through several amazing tunnels and flumes into Kauai’s emerald interior. This is surely a great way to do some island sightseeing!

Other popular water activities on Kauai are snorkeling, snuba, scuba diving, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding. Some of the best dive spots are only accessible via boat, for example in the waters off the Na Pali Coast or surrounding the neighbor island of Niihau. Niihau is Hawaii's "Forbidden Island," a private island that few people ever get to see. Hawaii Discount offers charter boat excursions that allow you to snorkel in the island's pristine waters. Or how about a dolphin watching or dinner cruise around sunset time?

Kauai is a great island and there are tons of fun things to do. Start planning your Kauai vacation today with Hawaii Discount, the leader in discounted activities.
