    Holi is just around the corner and we all are super excited for the festival of colours. Holi is an important and one of the most loved Indian festivals and no Indian festival is complete without lots of food and sweets.

    If you are planning a Holi party, then you must be confused about what to make. So, try the traditional Holi sweet recipes this year instead of some modern recipes. All your guests will surely love it and it will be a treat for the taste buds. Here are some recipes that you can try.

    Malpua

    Ingredients

    For Malpua

    • 1 Cup Maida
    • ½ Cup Semolina
    • ¼ Cup Sugar
    • ½ Tsp Fennel (Powdered)
    • ¼ Tsp Cardamom Powder
    • ½ Cup Milk
    • Water
    • Oil
    • Rabdi For Serving
    • Dry Fruits

    For Sugar Syrup

    • 1 Cup Sugar
    • ½ Cup Water

    Method

    • Firstly, take a large mixing bowl. Add maida, rava and sugar.
    • Add fennel powder and cardamom powder.
    • Now, slowly add milk to the mixture and keep mixing it continuously so that there are no lumps.
    • Add water as required and mix it well.
    • Make sure that the batter is smooth and you get your desired consistency.
    • Now, whisk the batter for about 30 minutes.
    • Now, heat some oil or in a pan.
    • Pour the batter into the oil.
    • When the batter starts to float, splash some oil over your malpua.
    • Fry it on both sides until it is golden brown.
    • Take the malpua and place it on a kitchen towel to drain all the excess oil.
    • For the sugar syrup, add water and sugar to a pan. Let it cook on medium heat. Keep stirring occasionally. Once the sugar completely dissolves, your sugar syrup is ready.
    • Now, soak the malpuas in hot sugar syrup.
    • Now place the malpuas on a plate and garnish it with rabdi and nuts.

    Puran Poli

    Ingredients

    • 1 Cup Blanched Chana Dal
    • 2 Tbsp Ghee
    • ½ Tsp Fennel (Powdered)
    • 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
    • 1 Cup Powdered Jaggery
    • 1 Tsp Powdered Green Cardamom
    • 1 Tsp Nutmeg Powder
    • ¼ Tsp Turmeric
    • ¼ Cup Water

    Method

    • Heat some ghee in a pan over medium heat.
    • Now, add blanched dal to it.
    • Roast for about 2-3 minutes. Now, add jaggery, cardamom powder, fennel powder and nutmeg powder to it. Mix well and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    • Now, turn off the flame and mash the dal using a masher.
    • Take a large plate, add all purpose flour, turmeric, salt and oil. Mix well.
    • Add water little by little and knead it to make a dough.
    • Take a small part and roll it. Now, put the stuffing in the middle. Cover the stuffing by making a ball.
    • Now, roll it again.
    • Now, put it on the pan and let it cook on medium flame. Add ghee.
    • Cook it well from both sides.
    • Now, it is ready to be served.

    Gujiya

    Ingredients

    • 3 Cups All Purpose Flour
    • 300 Gram Khoya
    • 1 Tbsp. Cardamom Powder
    • 1 ½ Cup Sugar
    • ¼ Cup Semolina
    • 2 Tbsp Finely Chopped Almonds
    • 1 ½ Cup Ghee
    • 1 ½ Cup Water

    Method

    • Take a large mixing bowl. Add all purpose flour and water to make a dough. Also, some ghee to the dough. Knead it well.
    • Once you get the desired consistency, leave it aside for a while.
    • Meanwhile, add khoya and semolina to a pan. Sauté it until it turns golden brown.
    • Once it is cooked, let it cool down.
    • Add sugar, cardamom powder and almonds to the khoya mixture once it is cooled down. You can add other nuts as well.
    • Now, grease your hands with oil or ghee.
    • Then, make small balls of the dough. Roll it out and put the stuffing in the centre. Cover it and seal the corners using your hands.
    • Heat some ghee in a pan over medium flame. Fry the gujiyas until they are golden brown.
    • Your gujiyas are now ready to be served. Just garnish with some saffron strands and nuts.

    Shakarpara

    Ingredients

    • ¼ Cup Powdered Sugar
    • ¼ Cup Water
    • 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
    • 1 Tsp Semolina
    • ¼ Tsp Cardamom Powder
    • 2 Tbsp Ghee
    • ½ Tsp Salt
    • Oil

    Method

    • Take a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and water. Mix well.
    • In another bowl, add all purpose flour, semolina, cardamom powder, salt and ghee. Add sugar syrup little by little and knead the dough.
    • Roll it like a paratha. Don’t make it too thin.
    • Cut the dough into diamond shapes.
    • Deep fry in hot oil. Fry them until golden brown and keep stirring occasionally.
    • Take them out on a kitchen towel to drain out the excess oil.
    • You can bake it at 180 degrees Celsius for about 15-20 minutes.
    • Your shakarparas are now ready to be served.
