P.J. Tucker To Sign 10-Day Contract With Knicks

P.J. Tucker will join the Knicks on a 10-day contract, sources tell Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link). Tucker talked with several teams over the past week before deciding on New York, Charania adds.

The 39-year-old forward will bring defensive toughness and three-point shooting to the Knicks, who are in a tight race for playoff seeding in the Eastern Conference. He also has a wealth of postseason experience — including a championship with Milwaukee in 2021 — that will be valuable if he winds up getting signed for the rest of the season.

New York has been carrying an open roster spot since the trade deadline, so no other move will be necessary to add Tucker. The team is roughly $540K below the second apron, and Tucker’s 10-day deal will cost $119,972, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN (Twitter link).

Tucker isn’t expected to sign today, but he will at some point during the current road trip, tweets Steve Popper of Newsday. The Knicks don’t play again until Monday at Sacramento, and they want to get as many games as possible out of Tucker during the 10 days he’ll be active. If he signs on Monday, he’ll be eligible to appear in five games before the contract expires March 19.

Ian Begley of SNY hears that the Knicks view Tucker as an “integral addition” to a locker room that doesn’t have an experienced veteran of his stature (Twitter link). The team was also looking for someone with an “enforcer mentality,” Begley adds.

Tucker, who hasn’t played yet this season, started off with the Clippers after picking up his $11.54MM player option over the summer. An agreement was reached in early October that he would remain away from the team while his agent worked with the front office to find a trade.

Nothing materialized until February 1 when he was sent to Utah as part of a four-player deal. He was traded again five days later, being shipped to Toronto as part of the five-team Jimmy Butler deal. He remained inactive with the Raptors until he was waived February 28.

The Knicks will be the eighth team for Tucker, who made his NBA debut with Toronto during the 2006/07 season. He has appeared in 883 games with career averages of 6.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists and shooting splits of .425/.366/750.

Raptors Sign Colin Castleton To 10-Day Contract

March 6: The signing is official, according to the NBA transactions log.

March 5: The Raptors intend to sign center Colin Castleton to a 10-day contract, according to NBA insider Marc Stein (Twitter link).

Castleton, who went undrafted out of Florida in 2023, spent his rookie year on a two-way contract with the Lakers and was on a two-way deal with the Grizzlies for most of the first half of this season. The 6’10” big man appeared in 26 combined games for the two NBA clubs, compiling 38 points and 21 rebounds in 105 total minutes.

Although Castleton’s playing time at the NBA level has been limited, he has performed well for the Lakers’, Grizzlies’, and Magic’s G League affiliates since going pro.

The 24-year-old, who has been playing for the Osceola Magic since being waived by the Grizzlies in January, has made 26 total G League appearances this season, averaging 17.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 30.2 minutes per game for Osceola and the Memphis Hustle.

Even after promoting center Orlando Robinson to a standard contract on Tuesday, Toronto has an open spot on its 15-man roster, so no corresponding move will be necessary to make room for Castleton. His 10-day contract will pay him $107,027 and will carry an identical cap hit on the Raptors’ books.

The Raptors don’t play again until Friday, so it’s unclear when exactly Castleton will sign his contract. The 10-day deal will run through at least Toronto’s next five games and could cover as many as six if it’s not officially completed until Friday.

Bucks Promote Ryan Rollins, Sign Jamaree Bouyea To Two-Way

March 4: Both roster moves are now official, the Bucks announced in a pair of press releases.

March 3: The Bucks are poised to make a pair of roster moves, according to Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter links), who reports that two-way guard Ryan Rollins will be promoted to the standard roster, with guard Jamaree Bouyea getting a two-way contract from the club.

Charania, citing agents Mike Silverman and Brandon Grier, says Rollins is getting a rest-of-season contract from the Bucks, which suggests it’ll be a straight conversion rather than a new multiyear agreement. Assuming that’s the case, Rollins would be eligible for restricted free agency at season’s end.

The No. 44 overall pick in the 2022 draft, Rollins didn’t see much action for Golden State or Washington in his first two NBA seasons, but has emerged as a rotation player for the Bucks in his third year, averaging 4.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 12.5 minutes per night across 39 games (eight starts).

Players on two-way contracts aren’t eligible to be active for more than 50 NBA regular season games in a season and Rollins reached that 50-game limit last Thursday. Once his promotion is official, he’ll once again be able to suit up for the Bucks and will also be eligible to participate in the postseason.

Bouyea, a former San Francisco standout, has bounced around the NBA and G League since going undrafted in 2022, playing for the Heat, Wizards, Trail Blazers, and Spurs at the NBA level, as well as the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Rip City Remix, and Austin Spurs in the NBAGL.

In 28 games this season for San Antonio’s G League affiliate, the 25-year-old has averaged 18.9 points, 4.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per contest, with a shooting line of .501/.343/.816.

No corresponding roster moves will be necessary for the Bucks, who already have an open spot on their 15-man roster. Bouyea, of course, will take the two-way slot vacated by Rollins.

Milwaukee will have 15 players on standard contracts and three on two-way deals once the transactions are complete, but could technically carry one more player on the standard roster until Bobby Portis‘ 25-game suspension is over — players serving suspensions longer than five games can be moved to the suspended list and don’t count against a team’s roster limit until they’re reactivated.

Hawks Sign Jacob Toppin To Two-Way Contract

6:46pm: The signing is official, the Hawks confirmed in a press release.

4:21pm: The Hawks are filling their open two-way slot by signing second-year forward Jacob Toppin, The Stein Line contributor Jake Fischer tweets.

Toppin became a free agent when the Knicks waived him on Sunday. The 6’9″ Toppin made 16 appearances for New York this season but his minutes were limited — he averaged 0.4 points and 0.7 boards across 3.1 minutes per game.

Toppin posted big numbers for the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League. In 11 regular season games, the younger brother of Pacers forward Obi Toppin averaged 25.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.8 blocks and 0.7 steals per contest.

Toppin went undrafted out of Kentucky in 2023 and had a two-way deal with the Knicks for much of last season. New York re-signed him on a two-way deal in August.

He can be active for as many as 12 games for the remainder of the Hawks’ regular season.

Atlanta created an opening to sign another two-way player by elevating Dominick Barlow to the 15-man roster on a standard, two-year contract. The Hawks opened a spot on the 15-man roster for Barlow by terminating Kevon Harris’10-day deal.

Tuesday night is the deadline for teams to sign two-way players.

Warriors Promote Pat Spencer, Sign Braxton Key To Two-Way

6:07pm: Spencer has officially had his contract converted and Key has signed his two-way deal, the team’s PR department tweets.

4:57pm: The Warriors are converting Pat Spencer‘s two-way deal into a standard contract and will fill that two-way spot by signing forward Braxton Key, The Stein Line contributor Jake Fischer reports (Twitter links).

Golden State had two open spots on the 15-man roster and needed to fill at least one of them. The signing of Kevin Knox to a second 10-day contract at the beginning of the month bumped its roster count to 13.

Spencer has appeared in 28 games off the bench for the Warriors this season, averaging 2.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 7.0 minutes per night. He scored a career-high 17 points against Indiana on Jan. 10.

Spencer, 28, went undrafted out of Northwestern in 2020. He had a brief stay in Germany but has spent the bulk of his pro career in the G League. He’s played five games for the Santa Cruz Warriors this season.

Key, 28, has appeared in 34 career NBA games, including 20 contest with Denver last season. He was part of the Clippers’ training camp roster last fall but was waived prior to the season opener.

Key has been playing in the G League with the San Diego Clippers. In a total of 38 NBAGL appearances, he’s averaging 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals in 31.8 minutes per game.

Nets Sign Tyson Etienne, Waive Kendall Brown

The Nets have agreed to a two-way contract with guard Tyson Etienne, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype tweets. They opened up a two-way spot by waiving Kendall Brown, Brian Lewis of the New York Post tweets. Both moves are now official, per NBA.com’s transaction log.

Etienne has averaged 20.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 steals for the NBA G League’s Long Island Nets in 24 regular season games. The 6’2″ guard has been extremely proficient as a three-point shooter, knocking down 47.6% of his attempts while taking an average of 7.0 per game. He has yet to make his NBA debut.

Etienne was signed and waived by Brooklyn on an Exhibit 10 deal in September. He had been in the Hawks organization after going undrafted out of Wichita State in 2022, playing for their G League team.

Brown was signed to a two-way deal late last month and didn’t appear in a game with the Nets. The 48th overall pick in the 2022 draft, Brown spent his first two professional seasons with the Pacers, first on a two-way contract and then on a standard deal. However, the 6’7″ swingman was waived by Indiana in October and then had his G League rights acquired by the Long Island Nets later that month.

Brown has appeared in 37 games with the Long Island Nets this season, averaging 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Knicks Add Anton Watson On Two-Way Deal

The Knicks have claimed former Celtics forward Anton Watson off waivers, ESPN’s Shams Charania tweets. Watson is on a two-way contract and will fill New York’s lone two-way opening.

Boston waived Watson on Sunday. A rookie forward selected with the No. 54 pick in last year’s draft, he signed his two-way contract in August but has yet to make his NBA regular season debut.

Watson has appeared in a total of 37 games (34 starts) for the NBA G League’s Maine Celtics in the Tip-Off Tournament and regular season. He’s averaging 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 29.9 minutes per game.

Watson, 24, played five seasons at Gonzaga and averaged career highs of 14.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season.

The Knicks opened up a pair of two-way slots by waiving Matt Ryan and Jacob Toppin on Sunday. They filled one of those spots by signing MarJon Beauchamp earlier on Tuesday.

Tuesday night is the deadline for teams to sign two-way players.

Hawks Sign Dominick Barlow To Standard Contract

March 4: Barlow’s contract is now official, the Hawks announced in a press release. As we relayed in a separate story, Harris’ 10-day contract was terminated early to create room on the standard roster for Barlow.

March 2: The Hawks are set to sign two-way forward Dominick Barlow to a two-year standard contract, agent Todd Ramasar of Life Sports Agency has informed ESPN’s Shams Charania (via Twitter). Barlow is currently on a two-way deal.

Atlanta currently has no room on its standard roster for Barlow, having just inked swingman Kevon Harris to a 10-day contract on Saturday. The team will either have to terminate Harris’ deal early or waive another player to make room for Barlow.

A 6’9″ combo forward, Barlow skipped college, having played instead for Overtime Elite’s Team Overtime in 2021/22.

Barlow, 21, spent his first two NBA seasons with the Spurs. He was on a two-way contract as a rookie and opened the 2023/24 campaign on a two-way deal before seeing that agreement converted to a standard contract at the end of that season.

Barlow has played sparingly for the Hawks at the NBA level so far this season, seeing action in 18 games (two starts). Across just 7.8 minutes per night, he’s averaging 2.9 points and 1.6 boards.

Barlow has, however, made a bigger splash with Atlanta’s G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, in 2024/25.

In 13 Tip-Off Tournament games for the Skyhawks, Barlow averaged 19.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.6 steals per contest. Across four regular season bouts with College Park, he had been averaging 20.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 1.5 APG, 0.8 BPG and 0.8 SPG.

Knicks Sign MarJon Beauchamp To Two-Way Deal

March 4: The Knicks have officially signed Beauchamp to a two-way contract, the team confirmed today (via Twitter).

March 3: The Knicks are adding MarJon Beauchamp on a two-way contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania tweets.

Beauchamp was waived by the Clippers on Saturday in order to promote Jordan Miller to a standard contract. The Knicks opened up a pair of two-way slots by waiving Matt Ryan and Jacob Toppin on Sunday.

The 24th overall pick in 2022, Beauchamp has struggled to establish himself as a reliable NBA rotation player. He has averaged 4.2 PPG and 1.9 RPG in 129 career contests (11.2 MPG).

The 6’7″ forward spent his first two-and-a-half NBA seasons with the Bucks, then was traded from Milwaukee to Los Angeles at the deadline in exchange for Kevin Porter Jr. Beauchamp came off the bench in 26 contests with the Bucks this season before he was dealt and made three limited appearances with the Clippers.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks (Twitter link), he’s eligible to be active for 12 of the Knicks’ 22 remaining regular-season games.

Kevin McCullar holds the Knicks’ other two-way contract.

Raptors Sign Rhoden To Two-Way Deal, Promote Robinson

12:19 pm: Both roster moves are now official, according to the transaction log at NBA.com.

10:54 am: The Raptors have agreed to a two-way contract with guard Jared Rhoden, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link).

Rhoden, 25, was in camp with Toronto back in the fall. When the Raptors waived him at the end of the preseason, he was claimed by the Hornets, who converted him to a two-way deal and kept him him on their roster for about six weeks before cutting him in early December.

After appearing in four games for the Hornets and two for their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, Rhoden has been suiting up for the Raptors 905 for most of the NBAGL season. The former Seton Hall standout has averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 30.3 minutes per game across 22 appearances for Toronto’s G League affiliate. He has knocked down down 49.5% of his shots from the floor, including 38.0% of his three-pointers.

Rhoden was briefly under contract with the Raptors last month after signing a 10-day deal with the team on February 19. He appeared in just one NBA game for Toronto during those 10 days, seeing 78 seconds of garbage-time action in a blowout win over Phoenix.

The Raptors will have to open up a two-way slot in order to sign Rhoden and the expectation is that they’ll do so by promoting center Orlando Robinson to their standard roster, reports Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca (Twitter link). It’s expected to be a straight conversion for Robinson, which means he’ll just be signed for the rest of the season, according to Murphy.

Robinson, who opened the season on a non-guaranteed contract in Sacramento, barely played for the Kings, but has been part of the Raptors’ regular rotation in recent weeks, first on a pair of 10-day contracts, then on a two-way deal. He has posted 5.5 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 1.3 APG in 17 games (15.7 MPG) for Toronto.

The Raptors currently have two openings on their 15-man roster, so they’ll still have room for another player after promoting Robinson.
