Die springs are coiled compression springs that shorten and provide resistance to heavy compression forces. When force is applied, tension increases and the springs shorten in length. That stored energy is released when the force is removed and the springs returns to its original state. These can be installed under no tension at full length or compressed at a shortened length depending on the application.
