There are a number of encounters which can occur at random throughout the Commonwealth. Some of these encounters can yield rewards others are just plain awesome like two Deathclaws going toe to toe or a mysterious safe in the middle of a crater or....I'll stop now!

As these meetings \ events are random you may not be able to replicate them in the same location but keep your eyes peeled 

Gene and the Junkyard Dog

Gene is a dog vendor found wandering the wasteland. If you encounter him he will ask if you wish to acquire a dog for 250 caps. 

Before speaking with Gene or agreeing to the 250 caps ensure you quick save and have a Charisma level of 6+ as there is a persuasive element to the conversation. 

Continue through the dialogue and at the end of it you might have yourself a new dog. Unfortunately unlike Dogmeat your new pet will not be able to accompany you through the Commonwealth. However there is a benefit, the location to which you send the dog will get a defense increase of 5 and your settler's happiness will also increase

• Across the bridge opposite from the USS Constitution
• Appears at Abernathy Farm
