Thoma Character Overview
Thoma is the first person you'll meet when you arrive in Inazuma. He'll be the one to introduce you to how things work in there. Despite being originally thought of as an Inazuman, Thoma is actually born in Mondstadt to an Inazuman father and a Mondstadter mother.
How to Get Thoma
Thoma is a 4-star character available both in the standard banner and the character banner. The highest chance to obtain Thoma would be a character banner that includes him as a 4-star rate up.
Combat Details
Thoma is a character that can easily fit both the support and the sub DPS role. He can provide shields with his elemental skill and elemental burst while also scorching the opponents around him and applying pyro whenever a normal attack was made while his elemental burst is up. This also makes Thoma a great enabler for pyro reactions.
Thoma's Talents and Skill Priorities
Thoma heavily benefits from having a high HP pool as this strengthens the shield he provides to the team.
Type | Name | Effect |
---|---|---|
Normal Attack | Swiftshatter Spear | Normal Attack Performs up to four consecutive spear strikes. Charged Attack Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to opponents along the way. Plunging Attack Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact. |
Elemental Skill | Blazing Blessing | Thoma vaults forward with his polearm and delivers a flame-filled flying kick that deals AoE Pyro DMG, while also summoning a defensive Blazing Barrier. At the moment of casting, Thoma's Elemental Skill applies Pyro to himself. The DMG Absorption of the Blazing Barrier scales off Thoma's Max HP. The Blazing Barrier has the following traits:
The maximum DMG Absoprtion of the Blazing Barrier will not exceed a certain percentage of Thoma's Max HP. |
Elemental Burst | Crimson Ooyoroi | Thoma spins his polearm, slicing at his foes with roaring flames that deal AoE Pyro DMG and weave themselves into a Scorching Ooyoroi. Scorching Ooyoroi While Scorching Ooyoroi is in effect, the active character's Normal Attacks will trigger Fiery Collapse, dealing AoE Pyro DMG and summoning a Blazing Barrier. Fiery Collapse can be triggered once every 1s. Except for the amount of DMG they can absorb, the Blazing Barriers created in this way are identical to those created by Thoma's Elemental Skill, Blazing Blessing:
The maximum DMG Absorption of the Blazing Barrier will not exceed a certain percentage of Thoma's Max HP. |
First Ascension Passive | Imbricated Armor | When your current active character obtains or refreshes a Blazing Barrier, this character's Shield Strength will increase by 5% for 6s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.3 seconds. Max 5 stacks. |
Fourth Ascension Passive | Flaming Assault | DMG dealt by Crimson Ooyoroi's Fiery Collapse is increased by 2.2% of Thoma's Max HP. |
Passive Talent | Snap and Swing | When you fish successfully in Inazuma, Thoma's help grants a 20% chance of scoring a double catch. |
For talent priorities, we recommend going for:
- Elemental Burst
- Elemental Skill

Thoma's Constellations
Thoma is a character that can already handle himself at C0. However, C1, C4, and C6 will definitely make him a much more powerful support in the field. His C1 helps with his quite lengthy cooldowns while C4 helps with his energy requirements.
Constellation Name | In-Game Name |
---|---|
A Comrade's Duty (C1) | When a character protected by Thoma's own Blazing Barrier (Thoma excluded) is attacked, Thoma's own Blazing Blessing CD is decreased by 3s, while his own Crimson Ooyoroi's CD is decreased by 3s. This effect can be triggered once every 20s. |
A Subordinate's Skills (C2) | Crimson Ooyoroi's duration is increased by 3s. |
Fortified Resolve (C3) | Increases the Level of Blazing Blessing by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15. |
Long-Term Planning (C4) | After using Crimson Ooyoroi, 15 Energy will be restored to Thoma. |
Raging Wildfire (C5) | Increase the Level of Crimson Ooyoroi by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15. |
Burning Heart (C6) | When a Blazing Barrier is obtained or refreshed, the DMG dealt by all party members' Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks is increased by 15% for 6s. |
Best Thoma Character Builds
Thoma is best suited to the support role, more specifically, the shielding role. Not only does he shield his team from damage, but he can also be a consistent pyro enabler as mentioned. Thoma's kit revolves around him having high HP as even his fourth ascension passive taps into this, buffing his elemental burst's damage using his max HP.
Best Weapons for Thoma
As you may see, some of these weapons have Energy Recharge as their substat. This is due to Thoma having a very high energy requirement for his elemental burst. However, Staff of Homa towers all over them due to the sheer amount of HP it provides and the effect of the weapon itself.
Weapon Name | In-Game Description |
---|---|
Staff of Homa | HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 0.8% of the wielder's Max HP. When the wielder's HP is less than 50%, this ATK Bonus is increased by an additional 1% of Max HP. |
Skyward Spine | Increases CRIT Rate by 8% and increases Normal ATK SPD by 12%. Additionally, Normal and Charged Attacks hits on opponents have a 50% chance to trigger a vacuum blade that deals 40% of ATK as DMG in a small AoE. This effect can occur no more than once every 2s. |
Favonius Lance | CRIT Hits have a 60% chance to generate a small amount of Elemental Particles, which will regenerate 6 Energy for the Character. Can only occur once every 12s. |
The Catch | Increases Elemental Burst DMG by 16% and Elemental Burst CRIT Rate by 6% |
Best Artifacts for Thoma
Thoma benefits a lot from energy recharge. The ideal set for him would be a 2 piece Tenacity of the Millelith and a 2 piece Emblem of Severed Fates. However, if you're looking for more firepower, you can opt for 2 piece Crimson Witch of Flames and 2 piece Emblem of Severed Fates.
