Sherry Birkin was the daughter of G-Virus developer William Birkin and Annette Birkin. She was last seen escaping Raccoon City via underground train with Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. Both Sherry and Leon were brought in the U.S. Government's custody. Leon agreed to become an agent in exchange for her safety.

Although Sherry was safe in the custody of the U.S. Government, among the personnel in the department responsible for her, many of them were spies planted by Albert Wesker.

After several years, she was freed from her house arrest under the condition that she became an agent for the same secret military agency as Leon, the DSO (Division of Security Operations). It is revealed Sherry is on "protective duty." She is tasked with bringing in Jake Mueller. Her agency believes his blood may hold the cure to the C-Virus. At some point during the game, she and Jake meet up with Leon and Helena in China.
