Paolo Buffa
Italian, 1903 - 1970
Born in Milan in 1903, Paolo Buffa is considered one of the most influential furniture designers of the twentieth century. After studying architecture at the Politechnico di Milan, Buffa landed a job in the studio of Gio Ponti and Lacia, which was to be short lived. In 1928, Buffa opened his own office with the architect Cassi Ramelli. Known for his elegant, Neoclassical designs as well as his use of superlative materials in his dining chairs, Buffa also worked with local cabinetmakers to pioneer more efficient production techniques. In the 1960s, Buffa began working with the Italian furniture company, Cassina de Meda, ultimately moving Italian design toward even more streamlined and efficient production models. Paolo Buffa died in 1970.
