I keep getting 'ACC and Audi Braking Guard: Unavailable' after I had my tires changed a few months back and I'm still

Mechanic's Assistant chatimg
Customer: I keep getting 'ACC and Audi Braking Guard: Unavailable' after I had my tires changed a few months back and I'm still trying to solve it.
Mechanic's Assistant: I understand your frustration, but our Audi Mechanic will be able to help you diagnose and solve the issue with your ACC and Audi Braking Guard. What is the make and model of your Audi?
Customer: 2016 S6 Prestige
Mechanic's Assistant: Have you had the ACC and Audi Braking Guard system checked by a mechanic since the tire change?
Customer: No
Mechanic's Assistant: Is there anything else the Audi Mechanic should know about the issue?
Customer: All sensors seems to work fine as I get the warning tones when I'm parking and all the cameras seem to work fine, not sure if that is of any help.

Customer
Hey Frank! My name is Andrew

It's great connecting with you Andrew. How are you today ?

Customer
Pretty good, how are you doing?

I am doing great. Thank you for asking :)

To answer the question, these 2 faults could be related to an issue on the ACC circuit, which could be caused by couple possibilities :

ACC radar obstructed ACC radar calibrationWiring issue Module issue Etc ....

In order to determine the cause of the issue, the first step would be to connect a diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle in order to retrieve any faults stored in the drive assist module. That would give a good diagnostic starting point.

Would you have access to a diagnostic scan tool ?

Customer
I don't think the radar is obstructed as I do get feedback warning tones when parking for example and they're pretty clean looking. I don't see any fault codes on my VD700 but I had a buddy take a look and they said they saw one for a video cable error. All the cameras seem to work though. Is there a chance you could tell me where I could find that cable in the car?

Would you have access to a VCDS ?

If there are warning lamps, faults are stored.

These faults will not set in the ECM or ABS, you will need a scan tool that can access all the vehicle modules. The VCDS is the best one you can get, we use it at the dealership.

Customer
I unfortunately do not have access to VCDS
Customer
The only warning lamp that is on is the Brake light, currently working that issue out too lol

That would be the first step, the fault will indicate exactly which circuit is failing. I would not suggest starting a diagnostic on the driver assist system without the proper tools, it would be similar to go deer hunting while being blind.

Just saying by experience, these systems are all managed electronically.

The brake lamps ?

Parking bake or ABS ?

Customer
ABS

Any faults stored in the ABS module ?

Customer
Nothing that I am seeing, the only fault codes are for the o2 sensors and that's due to the tune on the car.

Something is wrong, your scan tool may not be able to access the ABS module neither, the reason why no faults are set.

If you like working on your vehicle, this is a must have, you won't regret it.

Customer
I'll definitely have to look into getting one

That will be the best 200$ ever spent.

It's a vert powerful scan tool .

Customer
I spent $200 on the other one thinking it'd be good haha Good to know, I'll pick one up later.

You will need a PC laptop to run it.

That has an USB port for the cable.

Customer
No issues with that, I work in IT lol Would I possibly be able to recalibrate the sensors using that software if I need to?

You will be able to code modules, program features on the vehicle, this is an amazing must have tool.

Customer
Awesome!

Output test, programming, relearns, live data monitoring, etc ...

The only thing it does not do is programming keys to the immobilizer.

Customer
I'm hoping the guys that were working on the tires just messed with the cable or unplugged it
Customer
That's probably smart haha

Since the ABS light is on, that could be related to a wheel speed sensor connector, that has been disconnected or damaged by mistake.

Customer
Do you happen to know where I could find that connector?

Yes, there is one on each wheel, on the spindles.

Customer
Just got back out to the car and looked, it is not the ABS but the red BRAKE light which I think is the wear sensors (even though I just replaced those), next to the parking brake light. My apologies.

No worries. The Brake light can be caused by a parking brake issue ( electronic ) or by the brake fluid level sensor.

The issue may be with the EPB system. Good news, using the VCDS will give you access to this module as well.

In the meantime, you can make sure that the brake fluid level is not too low, since it will trigger the same light.

Customer
The parking brake definitely works without flaw. Perhaps it is the fluid. I just bought this car so I assume the previous owner didn't do that.

That would be possible.

Customer
Let me take a look and see if that could be it. One moment while I try to find it

Even if the EPB system works correctly, an intermittent EPB switch or caliper failure could also trigger this light.

Yes, at the master cylinder on the driver side of the engine compartment, on the brake booster.

Customer
Is it possible for me to send an image over this?
Customer
Customer attachment 6/8/2023 12:58:02 AM
Customer
I assume it would be this here

Yes, this is the one. If you remove it, how is the level ?

Customer
Let me clean it a bit and I will check
Customer
It seems like it's only about an inch from the top
Customer
I'll have to grab some DOT4 tomorrow and give that a shot. That or maybe the cap sensor is bad, huh?

If you disconnect the connector, does the light go out ?

Customer
Should I start the car before or after I unplug it?

After disconnecting it.

Customer
It did not, it stayed on and said "Pull over and check brake fluid level"

Perfect, then you can reconnect it.

Customer
maybe it is the dot4?
Customer
I will have to grab some more tomorrow and give that a shot
Customer
Can I just reach back here tomorrow and give you an update then?
Customer
Awesome! Thanks!

My pleasure Andrew. Anything else i could do to help with ?

Customer
That should be all for now I think :) hopefully that fixes the ACC issue and turns that light off so I can get this thing to pass the safety inspection

Customer
Hey Frank! It's Andrew again, I added some more DOT4 and it seems like the issue did not go away. Any ideas as to what else it could be?

Good afternoon Andrew, i hope you are doing well.

Since oil was added and the issue not resolved, the next step will be to use a capable scan tool in order to retrieve the faults. That will indicate the failing circuit so no more speculating on possible causes.

It will be a lot more efficient.

Customer
Will do! Thanks for all the help :)
