You aren’t allowed to drive in the city center unless you have a special permit (nor would you want to - crowds of pedestrians and streets like golf cart paths). Otherwise, as long as you have navigation, it’s not too difficult. Toll signage is clear: you take a ticket at the beginning and pay at the exit. The sign with money and a hand means there’s an attendant; just money means self-service and credit card lane is obvious.

The reservation was handled through Hertz representative at Florence, Italy airport (Dollar was closed?). I was not given any telephone contacts if I needed roadside assistance or other problems with the rental. I had an issue with a tire pressure indicator and the car manual was in Italian. It was stressful driving late evening with no contact information to interpret the seriousness of the issue. After a long delay, a YouTube video helped resolve the situation. Felt isolated in foreign land.

We booked a small car, Opel Corsa or similar and they had a Corsa in the lot and two Lacia Yipsilon but they gave us a crossover vehicle called DR which was very large and extremely slow which made going up and down hulls practically dangerous as the car barely made it. For paying so much and not getting anything close to what we ordered felt lile we got a bait and switch from the company. Upon return of the vehicle the office was closed so there was no one to explain this to. Ended up being charged over $200 for less than 24 hours for a vehicle that nearly got us into an accident due to its poor functionality.

our flight was cancelled. We could not contact them. Avis took the opportunity the next day to charge ridiculous rates for the smallest vehicles. We went to another provider and were provided with the requested size at near the earlier quoted rate. I will not use a third party provider again. If not direct avis does not care.

This was one of the easiest and most pleasant car rental I've ever had. And I've had hundreds in the US. The first car we drove away was a manual transmission. When we got to our destination, we discovered that we had very steep hills and hairpin turns to navigate. And it was raining. Drivalia allowed us to exchange cars and sent us happily on our way. The 2nd car was Kia and fantastic. The drop off couldn't have been simpler either...just drop the keys and go!

Unfortunately they did not make it clear that unlike other international companies you must have a PHYSICAL international driver’s license to rent the car. Additionally they have zero flexibility for arrival time despite attempting to call multiple times. Ended up not giving me a refund either after not accepting my virtual intl drivers license and physical American one

worst experience I have had. getting car took 1.5 hours: 30 min while they drank coffee and smoked, 30 min for paperwork, and 30 min to go to lot where car was. upon return I texted 1 hour before return and they were still 30 min late. Now I see there was a charge for gas even though I left more gas than initially.

It was a rip-off. At no point did the agency advise that Italian police now require an international driving licence for non-Europeans. At least the established American companies allow you to take the car, but they put the responsibility on the driver to pay any fine, which is an acceptable compromise. Surprice just steal your money. A thoroughly disreputable company!!

I am disappointed with kayak because they quoted me a price. On their website and when I arrived to to Europcar I received a different quote. They informed me it was because I had booked to drop the car off at a military base, which I had no idea I had done. I was quoted 55$ or so by kayak and when I got to Europcar I had to pay 160$. I would like some sort of reimbursement from kayak for this mistake.

Very tough to follow directions within Florence (pick up - drop off), realizing it is a challenging city to begin with. Better directions would help, though the staff at the office were great (language barrier). The car was amazing, zero complaints (having never driven this before).
