Kingdom Hearts III
A young man who was destined to meet Sora. His true identity is shrouded in mystery.
"If you are who you say, and it was fate that brought us here, then...my path is clear."
—when Yozora encounters Sora.

Yozora is a main character in the fictional game Verum Rex, which is featured prominently in Toy Box of Kingdom Hearts III.

Development[edit]

In early prototype of the "Commercial Break" cutscene, Noctis Lucis Caelum's model was used as a placeholder model for Yozora.

Story[edit]

Before Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Yozora was friends with the person whose spirit became the Nameless Star, and was an inhabitant of Quadratum.

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Yozora first appears in an advertisement trailer for Verum Rex on a television viewed by Rex and Hamm in Andy's room. After Sora, Donald, and Goofy defeat a group of Heartless that appear in Andy's Room, Rex and Hamm confuse Sora for Yozora when thanking him.

Yozora and his teammates are featured prominently in marketing material for Verum Rex displayed in Galaxy Toys.

The Nameless Star tells Sora about Yozora, saying that his heart has been replaced with that of another's and that he no longer remembers her, but if he did he would miss her.

After the defeat of Master Xehanort, Riku begins having a recurring dream where he is in a large city, where he walks past a large building. Yozora sits on the edge of one of its towers and watches Riku unseen. Yozora

Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind[edit]

One year after the defeat of Master Xehanort, Riku recounts the strange dream he's been having where Yozora observes him from atop a skyscraper in Quadratum.

Yozora prepares to battle Sora in Quadratum.
Yozora readies himself to fight Sora after making his intentions clear.

Elsewhere, Sora wakes up in a nighttime version of The Final World and desperately calls out to whoever is listening. When Yozora answers back and appears before him, Sora recognizes him from Verum Rex and his meeting with the Nameless Star, surprised to discover that Yozora is actually a real person. Yozora appears to know exactly who Sora is and claims that he is tasked to "save" him before explaining his current appearance is not his true one, but suddenly questions whether that is truly Sora at all. To Sora's shock, he summons his crossbow and sword and transports them to the 104 building where a fearsome battle ensues.

After Sora defeats Yozora, Yozora fades away into light and Sora ends up back in The Final World. Meanwhile, Yozora is woken up in a car by his driver, who addresses Yozora as "commander". As Yozora gazes out of the window, he and Sora wonder if their fight was real or not before Sora says that none of this makes any sense to him. Like, Is Any of This for Real or Not?

This information is based on alternate scenes or materials and is not considered canon within the overall plot of the series.
If Yozora defeats Sora, Sora crystallizes as Yozora vows to save him. Yozora then ends up in The Final World staring at the sky before waking up in a car. He wonders with Sora if their fight was real or not before stating that none of this makes any sense to him.

Design[edit]

Yozora has heterochromia iridum, with his left eye being red and his right eye being blue. He has short silver hair with dark roots, which spikes backwards, and a pair of silver stud earrings on each ear. He wears a black, hooded jacket that he keeps unzipped; an asymmetrical amount of gold buttons adorning his plaid-pattern lapels. The jacket has short sleeves; a strip of red studded with an emblem of a skull, crown, and crossed keys on each sleeve; gold buttons, and a checkered pattern at the hems. Underneath, he wears a black sleeveless shirt with a red V-neck. He wears black cropped trousers that are hemmed with the same checkered pattern as the jacket, and kept on by a belt tucked up under his shirt. He has black glovelettes on each hand, and sports black high-top boots.

Yozora has been noted to resemble Sora by Rex, and Riku by Sora, Donald, and Goofy. In the original Japanese version of one of his Gummiphone posts, Sora claims he feels a connection to Yozora precisely because he looks like Riku.[1] Sora has also admitted that there are similarities between his and Yozora's outfits, making note of both their predominantly black clothes. [2] [3]

He wields a small crossbow-like weapon and a sword with a glowing orange edge. When not in use, his weapons can fold into more compact shapes, with the edge of his sword being nonexistent unless fully deployed. His sword's blade can also transform if he steals Sora's Keyblade to develop "teeth" that resemble the Ultima Weapon's filigree.

Yozora's name is derived from the Japanese word for "Night Sky" (夜空 Yozora?).

Yozora claims that his appearance from Verum Rex is not his real appearance.

Yozora's entry in Jiminy's Journal has his character model facing left to right, compared to the rest of the game's characters models where they all face right to left.

Personality[edit]

Yozora appears calm, cool, and heavily collected, rarely showing any emotion besides a fierce yet quiet determination. He does show a somewhat cocky side, as he stated to Sora if the player loses their battle that he does not lose. Even during his battle with Sora, Yozora showed very little emotion, whether he won or lost. He only gave a vow that he would "save" Sora should he win and a resignation with a smile should he lose.

Abilities[edit]

Yozora is skilled in wielding his sword and crossbow. He can perform slashing attacks and assault Sora with lasers. He can also ensnare Sora in order to steal his items, even his Keyblade and Kupo Coin, and summon drones to fire more shots at Sora. His ultimate attack involves conjuring up an artificial sun to manipulate the flow of gravity and summon Gigas.
