Highlights
The Calipso liveaboard schedules year-round diving in the Galapagos National Park. Completely renovated in 2019, everything was designed to offer comfort and a fresh, modern environment. There are 6 cabins on the upper deck and 2 cabins on the main deck, each with panoramic windows, en-suite bathrooms, a hairdryer, individually controlled AC, a TV with hundreds of films to choose from, a safety deposit box, USB charging ports, and laminate flooring. Beds are doubles that can be converted into two singles. There is also one single cabin located on the lower deck with no single supplement, subject to availability. At 33m in length, there is more than enough space for 16 guests and 11 crew members on board. Social areas include an indoor salon and dining area where international and Ecuadorian cuisine is served with fresh local produce and seafood. The top deck has lounge chairs, a BBQ, a bar, and a hot tub.
Calipso Galapagos dive itineraries are 7 nights long, and explore the world-famous Wolf & Darwin for the chance to get up close with whale sharks, hammerheads, and dolphins. Calipso also visits Marchena, previously only dived by a few scientists and filmmakers; it is known for having very large pods of dolphins, schools of Hammerheads, and Galapagos sharks. The large dive deck at the back of the boat has rinse tanks, hot water showers, dedicated camera storage and cleaning areas, and personal towels.

Great liveaboard
If you want to swim with sharks, mola molas, and rays, and also you want to play with sealions, this is the only choice you have. Dive guides will get you there to show what you want. Every crew was very friendly, and dive guides were perfect. Room condition was also great. However, tip rate is bit high (they recommend 10% of tour price)

5 Star Service at 4 star prices
Staff service was comparable to more expensive 5 star dive boats I have been on. Tender operators, kitchen staff, engineering staff, boat crew were very focused on the guests. The engineering staff fixed a torn dry suit, a broken dive computer band, and a broken selfie stick all without any of the guests missing any dives.

Gets no better
I have been on many liveaboards, the crew, dive setup, and execution on the Calipso are all top notch. If you are headed to the Galapagos, you won't find a better option. Mola mola, iguanas, whale sharks, and all the hammers you can handle. While the encounters are not within the control of the crew, they did everything possible to get the timing right to maximize the chances.

Calipso crew made for a fun off-season Galapagos trip
I did an April trip aboard the Calipso. Overall, the trip was pretty great. Below are a few highs and lows, but way more of the former than the latter. The crew is great. Our steward, Danny, made sure every guest had everything they needed throughout the journey. Every hour. Every day. Divemaster Jimmy was incredibly knowledgeable about the various dive sites and really helpful to a wide range people of various diving competence. The rest of the crew were equally professional and helpful throughout. The rooms are spacious and clean (as was the boat, overall). The food was pretty good. And the sky deck area was underutilized on our cruise, but great. The Calipso, while not ludicrously indulgent or gluttonously fancy, was a great value for the money. Any nits I had were incredibly minor. The Santa Cruz transfer if you are going on to San Cristobal wasn’t exactly seamless (just make sure you have a very specific time the boat will be in port). I would have loved a freshwater dunk tank for all equipment (though fresh water was readily available via his and outdoor shower). And approach to tipping was less than just a suggestion — it was rather blunt. But as with any Liveaboard, tip. These folks work hard. I mostly mention these to emphasize how small these things are compared to all the reasons the ship is worth your consideration. These are all small. Whereas the trip felt big. I’d definitely recommend. However, were I to do the trip again I’d definitely choose the Calipso, for sure. However, I would probably opt for August-November when water clarity and conditions are more ideal. There was a ton of stuff at the sites, it just wasn’t always easy to see. (Something the boat obviously has no control over. But were I reading this, it’s something I would want to know.) I hope this helps inform your plans. Good luck in your choosing.

Great trip with very professional guides and crew
A really good trip on comfortable spacious boat with excellent crew and dive guides. Highlights from the diving are too many to mention, really diverse in wonderful locations. The crew were awesome, helpful, professional, knowledgeable and so friendly. We lucked out with a group of guests that were probably the best group I've dived with in over 20 years of dive travel. Food and accomodation was great. Rooms spacious and clean, food diverse and tasty. Improvements could made around the embarkation and disembarkation information. Not a lot of accurate information about where to meet prior to boarding, and information on arrangements for the last day was a little light which left us slightly disappointed. Boat engines also need a service and some maintenance as they produced a lot of smoke which was really noticeable in such a pristine environment. Trip was a little overpriced given the competition rates. All in all though a really great trip itinerary, boat and crew to see the best of the diving in the Galapagos Islands. A special mention for Peter Friere, our dive guide, who was just brilliant.
