About Us

Who we are

Welcome to Mail Order Trees, a family-rooted business with a passion for horticulture and a mission to deliver quality trees at fair prices. Founded by Michael Simpson in 2007, our journey started long before the digital age, with humble beginnings that stretch back over 30 years.

Fresh Flowers & Honest Beginnings

Picture this: It’s the 1980s. Big hair, loud music, and... Peter and Sandra Simpson selling fresh flowers with an honesty box in a quaint Cambridgeshire village. No tills, no security cameras just good old fashioned trust.

  • The nursery flourished with its reputation for high-quality, locally grown stock.
  • Michael’s curiosity about plants grew, even as he "helped" his parents on the fields (translation: got muddy and probably broke a few tools).

A Nursery (and Michael) in Bloom

The 90s were a golden era for the nursery—and Michael. While other kids were playing video games, young Michael was pruning trees and soaking up horticultural know-how like a sponge.

The Internet Gets Green (Thanks to Us)

Fast forward to 2007: Michael is now armed with horticultural qualifications, years of nursery experience, and one burning question: “Why are online tree prices so crazy?”

  • He decided to list trees on eBay (yes, eBay!) and was blown away by the response. Customers loved the idea of reasonably priced, high-quality trees.
  • Mail Order Trees was born, proving that great trees don’t need a hefty price tag—or a trip to the garden center.

From a Shed to Stardom

Business boomed, and so did the team (shoutout to Nick and Steve for their muscle and humor). The shed-turned-office was bursting at the seams, so we built a barn and an office to keep up with demand.

  • In 2011, we proudly snagged the "Grower of the Year" award.
  • Fun fact: The average age of our team back then was just 20! The industry didn’t know what hit them.
