Meet Lon Cameron, Founder of Maine Float
Lon is a Maine native from Bangor who grew up camping, paddling, and motoring along various waters, primarily in Aroostook and Penobscot counties.
Lon made his way to southern Maine for his undergrad work in Anthropology and Geography at USM. While completing his undergraduate work, he hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail in 2003 and hiked half of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2006, raising money for Maine-based nonprofits. Shortly after finishing his undergraduate degree, he decided to build a tiny house in the western Maine foothills. Lovingly referred to as the Crooked River Tiny House, the project became his first foray into the world of carpentry. With no previous experience, he gathered library books and spent hours watching online videos to learn the tools and the process. He soon after started his own small business creating furnishings and completing interior design projects for restaurants and local businesses in the Portland area. He eventually decided to return to school to become a Physician Associate through University of New England's PA program, from which he graduated in 2016. Lon recently transitioned a 1960’s camp on a beautiful lake to a year-round home and built a second tiny house on the property. He continues to work as a physician associate in central Maine, and when he isn't seeing patients in clinic, he spends his time with his human and fur family, works on design projects, putters (a lot!), and enjoys being in and on the water.
