A line plot is a visual way of recording data values.
A dot plot is another name for a line plot.
In a line plot, the data is displayed as points, or check marks, above a number line.

Using a line plot, we can clearly see:
One of the advantages of using a line plot, rather than a bar graph or line graph, is the speed and ease at which they can be created.
These sheets have been created for students around 3rd grade level.
All the worksheets involve creating and analysing different line plots.
In the answer sheets, we have used a 'X' symbol for the data. However a range of different symbols can be used - a common alternative is small circles.
We have split our 3rd grade line plots worksheets into two sections.
For most the of the worksheets, you need to read a scale to work out the data values which then need to be put into the line plot.
All the worksheets involve drawing a line plot. Sheet 4 also involves answering questions about the line plot.
These sheets all involve answering questions about a range of line plots.
There are two line plots on each sheet to answer questions about.
We have created a sheet for more able students who are already confident using line plots.
They are more advanced and require problem solving skills to work out.
You have to follow the clues to work out where to put the data points into the line plot.
