Bereavement Counselling in Durham
The pain of loss
Losing a significant person or a beloved pet can be a challenging and bewildering experience. If you find yourself here due to a loss or a bereavement you might be grappling with feelings of numbness, despair, longing or anger.
Grief is a natural response to loss but it can be an overwhelming, lonely and disorientating experience to cope with. If you’re struggling with a bereavement or another form of loss, you might want to consider therapy.
What is Bereavement & Grief Counselling?
Bereavement counselling, also known as grief therapy, encompasses a specialist area of therapy. The primary focus of the sessions relates to the death or loss of a significant other or a beloved pet.
The aim of bereavement counselling is:
Understanding and expression - Assist you to express how you feel and make sense of your experience;
Coping strategies - Assist you in finding effective ways of coping with the challenges of grief;
Adjustment to life - Help you gradually adjust to life without that person or pet. Adjusting doesn’t mean letting go, but building your life around the loss so it becomes less intense. Shared memories, their influence and the bond you had with them remain an integral part of your life.
If you had a relationship with the deceased that was complex, bereavement counselling can assist you with any unfinished business or mixed feelings surrounding your loss.
I have pursued additional training in bereavement therapy so I can best support you in your grief. This training includes:
CRUSE - Bereavement Care Course
Foundation for Infant Loss - ‘Pregnancy & Infant Loss training’ and ‘Assisting Clients with Subsequent Pregnancies after Loss’
Blue Cross - Accredited Pet Loss Support Volunteer Training
Other CPD - e.g. read papers and books and attended a bereavement counselling conference.
