I developed the itch to upgrade and rebuild my Intel-based desktop pc (even though socket 1700 is now obsolete /... I developed the itch to upgrade and rebuild my Intel-based desktop pc (even though socket 1700 is now obsolete / discontinued). My main motivation is that my old Gigabyte motherboard was really weak in supporting ddr5 frequencies. Forget any kind of overclocking - I couldn't even achieve stability at stock XMP profile speeds. I had no choice but to run the dd5 modules significantly underclocked for some time. I realized that this ddr5 frequency problem is probably common among lower and mid range motherboards. As a result, I started looking at motherboards that are mid to high tier in terms of overclocking capability. Eventually my search for a good product at a good price led me to find an interesting product, an Asus Strix z790 itx motherboard on clearance at my local Microcenter. It was a great price - which gave me new motivation for my build. Not only was my desktop going to be better. It was also going to be smaller.$1,687.43 -

Until recently, he always assumed the the monitor itself was "the computer." He was overdue for a teaching moment. So when he expressed a desire to play on a larger screen than his mobile device, I took the opportunity. A lot of basica information was passed on and the 11-year old was actually to do nearly all of the physical assembly with his own hands (under detailed instruction). I only handled the cpu installation because, you know, delicate cpu pins and such. Sadly, the pc is still primarily being used for games like Minecraft and Roblox. But I hope over time he will learn to appreciate what this system can do in the context of new games.$764.96 -

Now I use it to play games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy XIV, and some more recent titles and showcase games such as Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, DOOM Eternal, whatever's on Game Pass and more. Most importantly, I use this computer to get a buncha rounds of Balatro in. As a creator, I stream with my PNGTuber model on occasion, and thanks to the beefiness of the AMD Ryzen 7700x and the Radeon 7900 GRE I have, I'm able to do that with no sweat off my computer's brow.
