Even by late 1942 complaints started about the MK 103 against newer versions of the [[Soviet Union|Soviet]] [[T-34 tank]]s. One obvious solution would be to use the larger 37 mm gun, adapted from an anti-tank gun that had recently been abandoned by the army. These guns had already been converted into pod-mounted weapons for the Ju 87 and found to be a fearsome weapon. When mounted on the Hs 129 the empty area behind the cockpit could be used for ammunition storage, which would address the only problem with the Ju 87's mounting, limited ammunition.

But for some reason the Luftwaffe decided to skip over this gun for the Hs 129, and install a gigantic 75 mm gun from the [[Panzer IV]]. A huge [[hydraulic]] system was used to damp the recoil of the gun, and an [[auto-loader]] system with twelve rounds was fitted in the large empty space behind the cockpit. The resulting system was able to knock out any tank in the world, but the weight slowed the already poor performance of the plane to barely flyable in this new '''Hs 129 B-3''' version.

Lets not forget in late 1942 the German Luftwaffe was in a attrition fight with the RAF and USAF in the west - the Russians already partly maintained air superiority along the eastern front. You know how it played out: The 6th Army was defeated at Stalingrad in January 1943. The Wehrmacht understood that their offensive capabilities were limited from now. In order not to risk to overstretch the frontline the german generals wanted to regroup the eastern front and retreat some divisions to better defensible lines. But Hitler gave the order to hold each and every position at any cost. No Wonderweapon (even more Tiger IV) could have saved the Wehrmacht from defeat from this point.
The Hs 129 B-3 carring the 75mm gun arrived by 1944 and were build in small numbers only (25). Only a political agreement with Russia or the West-Allies would have changed the situation for germany, but the Nazi ideology of "total victory" wouldnt have allowed that unless Hitler would have been removed and replaced with a more moderate leader.

These requirements including the specific terrain were met in the vast, snow-covered flatlands of Finland and on the surface of the huge frozen lakes such as Ladoga, Llmen, Seligar and in coastal regions of the Baltic sea such as the Gulf of Finland. The Finns, who were experts in ski infantry tactics, adopted the use of aerosan, mostly using the ones they had seized from the Soviets.

During the Second World War, the Soviet military leaders recognized the importance of a snowmobile in battles that were usually happening in below-zero-temperature conditions. They ordered every motor sled in the country to become available for military use.

The Soviets developed new models and improved the old ones. There was a variety of aerosan-type snowmobiles in the Red Army ranks.

Thus, a number of successful raids into the enemy’s rear succeeded in destroying his rear area installations and capturing ammunition and equipment. Each aerosan was capable of carrying up to 500 kg of fuel and ammunition. It could be mounted with a machine gun, a medium mortar or a small caliber anti-tank gun.
