Npower Payment Update: Expected Timeline for Stipend Disbursement


As reported by Npower News, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has acknowledged that some beneficiaries have received stipends for three to four months, but the ministry is aware that graduate category beneficiaries are owed eight months while non-graduate category beneficiaries are owed nine months. The Permanent Secretary urged Npower beneficiaries and their association to remain peaceful.



The Permanent Secretary clarified that there is no set date for stipend payments yet, but stated that the issue has been escalated to the relevant departments. Beneficiaries were reassured that payment will begin soon as efforts are underway, and were also advised to ignore fake news regarding the payment.



Meanwhile, the Npower Publicity Secretary urged the Permanent Secretary to expedite the clearance of the nine months' outstanding stipends. The Permanent Secretary mentioned seeing many new representatives, especially from Bauchi State, and praised the association for its proactive efforts. He reiterated that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy is aware of the payment issue. He further added that the CEO of NSIPA, who recently took office, is also addressing the matter and that he has documents to back his claims.



The Permanent Secretary emphasized that all necessary actions have been taken and urged Npower beneficiaries to remain patient, noting that the National Coordinator is well-informed and actively handling the situation.

The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Dr. Badamasi Lawal as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). This significant appointment positions Dr. Lawal at the helm of one of the nation's pivotal social welfare institutions.

The decision to confirm Dr. Lawal followed a thorough process. The Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Investments reviewed his qualifications and credentials before submitting their report for consideration. The committee, led by Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, affirmed that Dr. Lawal met all the necessary legal requirements for the position, paving the way for his endorsement.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio facilitated the final step in the confirmation process by presenting the nomination to the legislative body for a voice vote. The senators gave their approval, solidifying Dr. Lawal's appointment as the new head of NSIPA.

Dr. Lawal will be stepping into the shoes of Halima Shehu, the former CEO of NSIPA, who was suspended by President Tinubu amid allegations of financial misconduct. This leadership transition comes at a critical time, as the agency continues to play a crucial role in the implementation of key social investment programs aimed at alleviating poverty and promoting economic development across the country.

In the interim period following Shehu’s suspension, Akindele Egbuwalo, the national N-Power programme manager, was appointed by President Tinubu to act as the temporary CEO of NSIPA. Egbuwalo's temporary leadership helped maintain continuity within the agency while investigations into the allegations against Shehu were ongoing.

Dr. Lawal's confirmation as the new CEO of NSIPA signals a new chapter for the agency. His leadership is expected to bring fresh direction and oversight to the organization, as it continues its work in addressing pressing social and economic challenges facing Nigeria.
