City of Elmira to repave almost 6 miles of road as part of summer projects
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The City of Elmira announced Tuesday that the Department of Public Works plans to repave 5.81 miles of roadway throughout the city this summer. The work begins this month, and will continue through September. The city did not announce dates for specific projects, as the projects are subject to weather and equipment availability.

Man Convicted for Walmart Diamond Heists
A man is facing two to eight years in state prison after being convicted of stealing over $7,000 in diamonds from Walmart. Matthew Patrick Gay was sentenced on May 2 for various offenses, including retail theft and failure to appear in court (both third-degree felonies), after being found guilty of stealing seven diamond rings totaling $7,362.50 from a Walmart in Athens, Pennsylvania.

An Elmira couple originally charged with manslaughter following the fentanyl-related death of their child will serve prison time after pleading guilty to lesser charges. Lance Townsend, 44, and Keyana Townsend, 36, were both initially indicted in June 2024 for second-degree manslaughter, a Class C felony, and misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, almost a year after the death of their 2-year-old child.
