Developed concept running shoe for the Italian sports brand, Kappa in Torino, Italy.
The concept focused on an internal suspension technology that minimizes the impact between runner and ground reaction forces. The flexible nature of the "suspension ribbon" allows the runner to transfer the impact forces absorbed by the vertical component of the collision force, to propel the runner forward through the suspension phase (time off the ground). This solution allows for the least expenditure of energy as the plantar flexes to ball of foot.
Project included extensive research of current market and bio-mechanical principles of heel/forefoot striking runners. It was important to understand and develop the concept around the research of running kinematics and kinetics (The way in which the body moves through the runners gate, the relationship between movements, and the forces that cause them).
