All the beauty of a large, traditional Magnolia and more...in a compact form. Meet the Jane Magnolia.

This Magnolia is a compact tree or large shrub. Its dark green, waxy leaves are attractive and offer excellent texture and beauty. But the star of the show are gorgeous tulip-shaped flowers. These large, fragrant blooms are pink to purple with a hint of red on the outside and white on the inside.

Jane Magnolias bloom in spring and often rebloom throughout summer. You'll enjoy even more color in your landscape in autumn when the green leaves transition to yellow and then copper.

With a mature size of 10 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide, the Jane Magnolia is perfect for just about any yard! This tree thrives in full to part sun and acidic, well drained soil. The Jane Magnolia is easy to maintain and does not require pruning. However, they do tolerate pruning well so feel free to sculpt your shrub to your heart's desire! This Magnolia is extremely cold hardy even growing in a zone 4!

Jane Magnolias look beautiful as a simple focal or accent tree, but try a hedge or border for a huge impact.

Enjoy your own Magnolia...even if you have limited space...even in cold, Northern zones! Buy a Jane Magnolia today!

Jane Magnolia Tree FAQ

When Does This Tree Bloom Flowers?

Jane Magnolias bloom in spring and often rebloom throughout summer. These large, fragrant blooms are pink to purple with a hint of red on the outside and white on the inside.

When To Prune The Jane Magnolia

Magnolias don’t generally require pruning, but prune in midsummer to early fall if needed.

How Far Apart Should These Magnolias Be Planted?

Plant your Jane magnolia trees about 6 feet apart for a stunning hedge.

Jane Magnolia Tree Care

Spring or fall are the best times for planting. If you live in an area with mild summers or mild winters you should be fine to plant at these times. Follow the recommendations below to choose the best location for your new Magnolia.

Jane Magnolias thrive in full sun to part shade. Magnolias are very adaptable; soil can be anything from clay to sand to loam, but be sure it is moist and drains well. Be sure the planting site doesn’t hold water. This can drown the roots which can cause root rot and ultimately the death of your tree. When your tree is newly planted, water deeply 2 to 3 times per week. You want to maintain this schedule for about the first 3 months while your plant is establishing. After this time your Magnolia will be quite drought tolerant and only need watering once weekly in summer. Mulching is a good option especially with a newly planted Magnolia. 2-3 inches of mulch will keep your soil moist and cool. It also keeps weeds and grasses at bay. Weeds and grass can steal nutrients and water from your tree. Fertilize with a standard slow release fertilizer in early spring. Magnolias don’t generally require pruning, but prune in midsummer to early fall if needed.

Choosing the proper location and providing appropriate care for your Magnolia goes a long way toward preventing disease and pests. A healthy tree is much less susceptible to infection and infestation. Luckily, Magnolias tend to be naturally disease and pest resistant. Magnolias are sometimes affected by an immobile pest called scale. This pest can be treated with horticultural oil. Be sure to coat the entire tree. You may need to apply more than once for complete control. Fungal diseases like Powdery Mildew can be treated with a copper fungicide.

Landscape ideas

Since the Jane Magnolia is only 10 to 15 feet tall and wide at maturity, it has many uses in the landscape.  It is one of the few flowering trees that can be planted even in tiny yards!  This compact Magnolia is prized for it's large, pink-purple blooms, but it has an appealing shape that makes it look lovely in your yard year-round.  Plant as a single specimen of focal tree just about anywhere.  This tree can even be planted under larger trees as long as it will still receive at least 4-6 hours of sun.  This will give your yard a more lush look.  The Jane Magnolia shines when planted in groups or hedges!  You will treasure the abundance of blooms in spring and look forward to the fragrance all year!

Rainbow Bridge Gift

My friends dog passed away unexpectedly and she was standing under a tree with pink flowers when it happened. I got her this tree as a sympathy gift not knowing the details of her dog passing away. I was blown away when she told me about the tree. It arrived in 3 days after ordering and was delivered in perfect health.

Very nice plant

Magnolia arrive in excellent condition, well packaged. It was lush and healthy in appearance. After planting, there was a windy storm that removed a number of leaves, but the branching are already putting out new growth. So far, so good, but it's only been a month since I got it.

Hopeful

I purchased a Jane Magnolia tree. It arrived in the time estimated. I planted the tree as soon as it arrived, following planting instructions. Unfortunately the tree didn’t recover the shipping process and died. I purchased the 10 year warranty and have submitted a claim for the tree to be replaced. I’m hoping to here in the next few days that a replacement tree is on its way. I will post a follow up review once I hear the Planting Trees response.

Great tree!

Very happy with our purchase. So far, we tried 3 different companies to ship trees and this is by far the healthiest tree of them all! The shipping was great: sturdy box, nothing got loose and no shipping damage. The tree itself looked great shape. It's been planted for now 5 days and it's still thriving, while our trees from the other companies died from shipping damage or just arrived in poor shape. Kinda wished we bought them all from here instead. Definitely recommend this shop and would buy from them again :) Thank you!
