While some polar animals only live at the north pole, others exclusively call the south pole their home. Penguins are one animal that make their home at the southernmost part of the earth. This cute creature is perfectly built for the cold weather with thick oily skin that helps to keep them warm. Additionally, penguins are excellent swimmers in ice cold water. Their flipper- like wings and streamlined body help them quickly “fly” through the water as seamlessly as other types of birds fly through the air! Get in on the icey fun with this chilly and silly penguin themed activity.
Materials:
Ice tray
Penguin figures
Baking sheet
Straws
Procedure:
Fill the ice tray with water and place one penguin figure in each divided section
Freeze the water with the penguins inside
Once frozen, pull out the ice cubes and place them on the baking sheet.
Blow the ice cube through the straw to skate your penguin around.
