Obituary
Reverend Gary Charles Evans, age 70, of Cohutta, Georgia, departed to meet his Heavenly Father, Thursday evening July 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Gary was born March 6, 1953 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late Walter Vernon and Anna Deavers Evans. He was also preceded in death by a his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde and Alene McKinney, sister and brothers-in-law, Deborah and Winfred Bearden, Randall Dale McKinney and Gary McKinney, grandmother, Goldie Holtzclaw Deaver.
Gary graduated from Criswell Bible College in Dallas, Texas. Following this he served as a missionary to Brazil, where he pastored a church in Cubatao, Brazil. He returned to the United States to continue his ministry in the Tri-State area, which included pastoring at Harvest Baptist Church in Dalton, Georgia, until he retired. He was a deeply spiritual man who shared God’s love and was known for his impact on the community through this misson. If Gary was not sharing his love of God, you could catch him wrenching on hot rods or race cars. Gary was a member of New Heights Baptist in Ringgold, Georgia.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Beverly McKinney Evans of the residence; his children, Michael and Stephanie Evans, Lori and Chris Wiley, Keith and Pam Evans, and Tara and Frank Henley; grandchildren, Frank and Gabby Henley, Ashley Henley, Kaitlyn and David Lynn, Amanda and Justin Bruce, Matthew and Autumn Wiley, Timothy Wiley and Sterlling and Clayton Conner; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Conner; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Kenneth Tate of Cohutta, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dewayne and Tina Evans of Rocky Face, GA, Phillip and Erica Evans of Chickamauga, GA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brent and Beth McKinney, Carl and Theresia McKinney, Laura Parker, Marty Gladden, Sandy Clayborne, Norma Carr, Janice and James Lowry, Carolyn and Bob Cronan, Diane Roehm and Dee McKinney; many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Reverend Gary Charles Evans will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Ponders Brainerd Chapel with Brother Tom Phillips and Brother Dan Hamby officiating. He will be laid to rest with his family at Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum with Charles Lynn, Wayne Craig, Christopher Albritton, Doug Beck, Kenny Sisk and Kelly Goodwin honored to serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be, Ronnie Marshall.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Brainerd Chapel (4203 Brainerd Rd, Chattanooga, TN, 37411) from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday after 1:00 p.m. Monday until the service hour.
