"The WVU Center for Resilient Communities (CRC) announces its second Resilience Ambassador Program, to be held in the Summer of 2025. The CRC has embarked on an innovative project to accompany the next generation of change-makers in a collaborative process to build more vibrant communities and assess the vulnerability to flood hazards in their communities in teams. Students will learn the concepts, skills, information, and attitudes that might increase our preparedness for future flood disasters. The CRC invites high school students ages 15 to 19 across Marion, Monongalia, Preston, and Taylor County to come together and participate in their Resilience Ambassador Program. Kingwood Bus Run - Bus 40-22 will be running 30 minutes late today. Again, bus 40-22 will be running 30 minutes late this morning.

Just a reminder that due to the planned water outage in Terra Alta, there will be no school for students at Terra Alta East Preston, and staff reports on a 2 hour delay. Buses will still be running for high school students in the area.

Based on an advisement from the Town of Terra Alta related to a scheduled water service interruption on Monday, March 31st that is expected through mid-day, Terra Alta / East Preston School will be closed on Monday. Students will not report and staff members will report on a two-hour delay. If there is any change in status on this situation before Monday, a notification will be sent out via the automated calling system.

Congratulations to the following players on their post season honors. Bella Miller (JR) - 1st Team Big Ten Conference and All State Honorable Mention. Kendra Nazelrod (SR) - 2nd Team Big Ten Conference. Kendra will also be joining the Lady Bisons of Bethany College this Fall. Big Ten Conference is voted on by the conference coaches. During a special meeting of the Preston County Board of Education on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the Board interviewed eight candidates for the current vacancy on the Board that was previously filled by Mrs. Shelley Miller. After completing all of the interviews and deliberating on the matter, the Board approved Mrs. Beth Noss to fill the vacancy through June 30, 2026. The remaining two years of the term will be determined in the May 2026 Primary Election. Congratulations to new Board member Beth Noss! Mrs. Noss will be sworn in at an upcoming meeting of the Board following her required initial training through the WV State Board Association.

Preston County Schools is proud to once again collaborate with Let Your Light Shine for Preston County, Wal-Mart, and the many other businesses and churches in the county who work to supply complete Easter Dinners for 500 of our own families who find themselves in need. Our schools take up donations and hold drives in an effort to assist, as well as many of our schools will serve as distribution sites on April 11th and 12th. More information will follow as we get closer to those dates. Any families in need can contact their school's counselor or student support team. Summer fun and learning experience for current 9th-11th grade students: The 2025 West Virginia Governor’s School of Entrepreneurship (GSE) at Marshall University is a 10-day program that inspires high school students to explore innovation and entrepreneurship. This experience will help students develop the skills and confidence to become leaders and innovators in their communities. Green Bank Observatory (8th Grade) Learn about the magic of the universe as you study the mysteries of outer space, utilizing data from the Green Bank Observatory (Green Bank) in Pocahontas County. Accessing the information under the guidance of nationally recognized scientists and instructors, students will learn about the constellations, outer space and, perhaps just as importantly, about their inner selves.

On March 19, 2025, Preston County Schools sent thirty-six projects to compete at the West Virginia Region VII Social Studies Fair. The West Virginia Region VII Social Studies Fair was held at the Waco Center in Glenville, West Virginia. Results: 24 first place, 4 second place, 4 third place, and 4 that had a great showing.
