WATERBURY — John L. Hopkins, a resident of Middlebury and CEO and president of Post University, will receive the 2019 Main Street Waterbury Community Partnership Award during a presentation between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, at the Palace Theater, 100 East Main St. The award celebrates the leadership and contributions of the late Stephen R. Sasala, former CEO of the Waterbury Regional Chamber and former president of Main Street Waterbury Board of Directors.
The recipient is a commendable individual whose initiative, leadership, and personal commitment embody the spirit of partnership and community involvement.
Mr. Hopkins has been active as a board member of numerous non-profit and for-profit organizations, including local board positions for the YMCA of Waterbury, the Palace Theater and Executive Board of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce.
He is a multiple Stevie Award winner, including Maverick CEO of the year three times, two-times CEO of the Year and two-times Company of the Year.
Main Street Waterbury CEO Carl Rosa commented, “Since coming to Waterbury several years ago, John Hopkins has provided a tremendous level of generous support and insights. His impact on our non-profit organization has been immeasurable and we are truly very grateful.”
A portion of the annual Main Street Waterbury Community Partnership Award program will include the awarding of the 2019 Stephen R. Sasala II Community Partnership Scholarship to Bayan Galal of Prospect.
She graduated from Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls in June with a 99.15 GPA and is currently attending Yale University majoring in political science.
During her high school years, she was very active in student government, Math honor society, athletics and organizing community events having given more than 500 community service hours.
