The Best Diablo Games
An expansion set to one of the greatest games of all time has a massive amount to live up to, and somehow, the team at Blizzard Entertainment managed to live up to the hype, and then some! Diablo II: Lord of Destruction expanded upon the base of Diablo II in phenomenal and revolutionary ways. Adding 2 of the most beloved classes to the game with the Assassin and Druid, a new way to customize equipment with jewels and runes, new and upgraded equipment barring system, and hundreds of small quality of life tweaks, make an already exceptional game as close to perfection as it could be.

Is this a great Diablo game?Showcasing a more vibrant and accessible style, a vast new world to explore, new and interesting lore, and a redefined and perfected hack and slash combat mechanic, Diablo II is arguably the perfect Diablo sequel, and arguably, one of the best video games ever created. This revolutionary staple of the action RPG genre managed to do the near-impossible. It left fans satisfied by simultaneously enhancing aspects of the game that fans loved from the original, and changed just enough to make it feel fresh, exciting, and bold.

Is this a great Diablo game?A supposed daring and exciting retelling of the classic Diablo II story, Diablo II: Resurrected is a reskinned remake of the revolutionary game, made with gorgeous new graphics, but the exact same gameplay mechanics from 2000. For many, this is all they could ever dream of, the exact same thing they remembered, just with a brand new layer of paint to make it look nice and pretty, however, the game completely overlooks nearly 2 decades of game design, often making it feel much older and colder than it should. It is a wonderful walk down memory lane, but a nearly impossible entry point for new fans.

- Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
- Platform: PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5
Is this a great Diablo game?Menacing, eerie, and drenched in an atmosphere of paranoia and terror, Blizzard Entertainment's first entry in the Diablo franchise, aptly titled Diablo, was a masterfully dark and transformative game-changer for the PC when it arrived at homes in 1996. Released during the peak of satanic terror in the United States, Diablo capitalized on this and created something that would revolutionize the gaming world. Groundbreaking loot mechanics, incredibly intuitive character classes, and repetitive but never boring gameplay mechanics instill this generational RPG as one of the most influential ever made.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls
Rebalanced and reborn, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls completely revolutionized Diablo III and created a product that both die-hard fans and newcomers could both love. Drastically cranking up the difficulty of the game, revamping loot rates, and completely omitting the infamous auction house that was introduced in the base game, suddenly a new life was brought into Diablo III, and it was a life that was familiar to those who loved the franchise. Implementing a new villain, adding a fifth act, and stunning new zones to the game were just the cherry on top of this re-invigorating expansion.

Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer
A relatively harmless bang for your buck, Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer opted not to do any sort of massive overhaul like the previous expansion, Reaper of Souls, but instead play it safe. The team at Blizzard Entertainment decided to simply add a brand new character class with the Necromancer, add some new cosmetic tabs and character slots, and introduce new zones and bounties into the game. These small additions only helped add to an already thriving Diablo III.
- Released: 2017
- Platform: PC, OS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Is this a great Diablo game? Diablo: Hellfire was the first expansion in the Diablo franchise and, shockingly, the game was not developed by Blizzard Entertainment, but by Synergistic Software, and right out of the gate, that worried many fans of the franchise. Their fears turned out to be unwarranted, however, as the expansion wouldn't do anything too drastic with the base game. Instead, Synergistic Software opted to add some quality-of-life improvements, add a new class with the Monk, and give a fun, if not unimportant, story that co-insides with the main story of Diablo. Overall, this fun, if not unremarkable expansion gave fans more Diablo, which is always a good thing.
- Released: 1997

- Platform: PC (Microsoft Windows)
Is this a great Diablo game? While some regard Diablo III as a watered-down and lackluster entry in the Diablo franchise, others can't get enough of the game-changing RPG, and it is undoubtedly one of the most polarizing games of all time. On one hand, the game is critically acclaimed for its improved, more approachable, and rewarding gameplay mechanics and intuitiveness. On the other, however, many hardcore fans of the franchise argue that the game is far too easy, stale, and boring, all while betraying the dark and grisly tone that was set in others, to allow a more family-friendly and diluted game.
