Dear Students and Families,

You know your child better than anyone. I respect your input and will work closely with you to ensure your child receives the best education possible. Know that you are always welcome in my classroom. I am available before and after school by appointment if you wish to discuss any questions or concerns regarding your child. I am looking forward to sharing this year with you and your child. Sincerely, Ms. Emily Langdorf

Id like to welcome you and your child to the start of the new school year! We are going to have a busy and productive year filled with exciting learning activities. I am delighted to be a part of your childs educational experience. This booklet outlines some important information about our class. Please review and discuss the contents together. My Teaching Philosophy I firmly believe a teacher must guide students to discover for themselves the value of seeking knowledge. I believe teaching must include meaningful, student-centered activities that equip students with problem-solving strategies that can be applied in a variety of contexts and situations. The varied backgrounds and interests of each student transform the classroom into a cooperative learning community. I believe every individual possesses unique abilities and talents worth developing. It is my goal to help each student recognize and develop these talents.

Our classroom rules will be decided together. The rules will reflect the standards and expectations of Gourley Elementary. *Consequences will be enforced when students choose not to follow classroom rules: Loss of one ticket = Warning Loss of two tickets = Loss of recess Loss of three tickets = notification of parents

Reading Logs are due on Monday and are worth 10 points. Each daily entry is worth 2 points. Other projects and assignments (Book Reports, Problem of the Week, etc.) will be assigned periodically.

All assignments will be written in an agenda each day. Daily homework assignments can also be accessed on the class website. It is the students responsibility to come to me.

Computer Use
We are fortunate to have the use of 15 desktop computers in our classroom. We will utilize many websites and programs to enhance student learning. Students will learn rules and procedures for the appropriate use of the classroom computers. Before using classroom technology, students will also sign a user agreement form. Failure to comply to rules will result in loss of computer privileges.

Weekly Update
Every Friday I will send home a Weekly Update. On the update you will be informed of your childs progress including their behavior, their progress on assignments, and how they are working in class. Please review the update with your child. The student will return the form on Monday with both student and parent signatures.
