LONG-TERM CARE IMPERATIVE STATEMENT ON DISAPPOINTING HOUSE HHS BUDGET NUMBERS

St. Paul The Long-Term Care Imperative issued the following statement on this mornings disappointing House Human Services budget recommendations related to state spending on seniors and caregivers. The funding increase included in the House Health and Human Services bill demonstrates a commitment to long-term care but, after four years of cuts and freezes, the funding levels proposed are simply insufficient to address our care giving crisis, said Gayle Kvenvold, President and CEO of Aging Services of Minnesota. We will continue to work with the Minnesota Legislature to secure dedicated and sustainable funding levels that make seniors and their caregivers a priority. "With weeks of stated broad based and bi-partisan support for making our seniors and caregivers a priority this session, the actual budget numbers proposed today are disappointing," said Patti Cullen, President and CEO of Care Providers of Minnesota. "While we understand the challenge Chairman Huntley had given the cuts budget target, the end result for caregivers is a call to change those targets. We hope the Senate will do a better job of making seniors and caregivers a priority and that ultimately the spending targets will reflect the need."
The Long-Term Care Imperative is a collaborative effort between Care Providers of Minnesota and Aging Services of Minnesota to advance a shared vision for senior care and supportive services for Minnesota's senior population. The goal of the Imperative is to help make caregivers and senior care is a priority for Minnesota policy makers to both ensure the best care for our aging population and provide the best jobs atmosphere for skilled care workers in Minnesota. ###
