Jordan University of Science and Technology

Department of English of English Languge and Linguistics

Engl. 099
Course Outline
Main Objective
The course aims at improving the four major skills of the English language: listening, speaking, reading
and writing. It builds on and strengthens the basics that students have acquired at school.
General Points
1. Absence is to be regularly marked on www.just.edu.jo/marks. Students should check
Student Services to know the number of absences they have. If a student is absent more than
10% without an excuse, he/she will fail.
2. If you dont attend an exam, you have only one week to present your excuse or you will lose
your right to make a make-up exam.
3. Any attempt of cheating will be dealt with according to the university rules.
4. Because of the large number of students and lack of facilities in the classroom, students are
not going to be examined in listening and speaking, but these are not to be totally ignored in
the classroom; they can be given to the students as homework.
5. Special emphasis should be given to grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, written
expressions and exercises.
