FTP was not designed to encrypt its traffic; all transmissions are in clear text, and
user names, passwords, commands and data can easily be read by anyone able to
perform packet capture (sniffing) on the network. To execute FTP over SSL (FTPS)
makes the data encrypted but FTPS is time consuming (not being firewall friendly)
and still no validation of sender/receiver is done.
Comprehensive authentication and authorization in all
processes, for all users, servers, clients, and databases in the
MFT cluster. Encryption technologies are extensively used for
internal system communications as well as for all file transfers.

Since traditional FTP is a Server Client solution it lacks the possibility to execute
client to client transfers. This forces Organizations to have different approaches
depending on the type of transfers (internal/external) i.e. to create a point to point
transfer a client to server transfer must be executed followed by a server to client
execution which has to be done by an in-house or third party software since FTP
has no ability to execute Server to client. FTP on its own does not have any features
for criteria and event-driven transfers.

FTP auditing abilities are scarce. Searching specific transactions are time-consuming
detective work and very resource intensive. Even if there is a possibility to actually
find a specific transaction in different log files you have not yet secured the whole
point to point transmission until controlling all log files being involved in the
process. This could include e.g. in-house or third party software log files as well as
the FTP logs.
Audit ability is related to the logging of every transfer at a local
and central level. Detailed reports are available. Cloudbuz
