Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology Electrical Engineering Department

This document provides information about the Power System Operation and Control course for 4th year electrical engineering students at Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology. The course aims to give an overview of controlling and operating power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power. Students will learn to model power systems and solve load flow problems, evaluate generation for economic operation, analyze load frequency and voltage control, and study different types of power system stability. Assessment will include class tests, assignments, simulations, and a university exam. The course coordinator is Mrs. Srujana R U and resources include a textbook, internet sites, MATLAB simulations, and additional class materials.

Course Description
The objective of this course is to give an overview of control and operation of power systems in a
wide sense, including generation, transmission and distribution of electric power.

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of course, the students will be able to:

1. Solve load flow by appropriate modeling of the given power system and formulation
of Ybus.
2. Evaluate generation mix for economic operation with and without transmission
losses.
3. Explain load frequency control and estimate the frequency deviation through
modeling and reducing the error through control system design for single area as well
as interconnected systems.
4. Analyze and describe different types of power system stability and establish SSSL.
5. Identify various methods of voltage control and study the reactive power
compensation.
