Physical Development: During this stage children are in a steady growth. They begin to perfect the skills
previously learned through the fine and grows motor skills. Children in this stage are able to have eye
coordination which allows them to catch and throw balls. Children in this stage are engaged into physical
activities.
Language Development Children in this stage are known to use extensive vocabulary.
According to
Loop, 2015, children can use correct vocabulary during conversation, effectively use language for different
reasons, such as interacting with peers at school or communicating at home with family, can restate ideas,
and can make oral speeches and presentations.
Cognitive Development: During the Middle Childhood Stage children are able to differentiate their
perspective from someone else perspective. They are capable of forming bonds with peers. The children
enter the stage of concrete thinking. They are able to use logic in their thought process; this stage also
develops the childs way of thinking when it comes in form of behavior. The child is able to connect their
behavior to the action.
Social Emotional Development- During this stage children begin to form a stronger connection with
their peers. They begin to develop a sense of self and relate to other with the same interest. Children in
this stage also experience the common ground of peer pressure. They begin to do what others do in order to
fit in and create friendship whether positive or negative.
Moral Reasoning- During this stage children begin to have abstract thinking and start to wonder whether
or not their parents can make mistakes. The children also begin to develop a strong sense of what is right
from what is wrong. The middle childhood children understand the meaning of rules and begin the necessity
of wanting.
Delay: During the Middle Childhood stage a parent can notice a possible delay if the child is showing signs
of withdrawal. Children can also show lack of self control, and inability to follow rules and expectations.
Strategies: Parents are able to influence the childs learning in this stage by providing lots open
communication. This stage the child is becoming aware of themselves. A parent must establish routine and
expectation followed by open communication and positive reinforcement. Parents can also encourage
children to play in games regulated by rules that can develop a sense of teamwork and belonging. This in
return may increase or boost up the childs self image and esteem.
