Strategy Number 27: COOPERATIVE LEARNING

Title: Inside Outside Circle1

Basics:
Time Needed:
Room
Arrangements
:
Materials:

Depends on the amount of questions and

instruction.
Large empty area for students to stand.

No material needed other than premade

questions.

Process Directions:

Students will partner up, or the teacher will count students off using 1 and 2.
1s will be on the outside of the circle, and 2s will be on the inside of the circle facing
the 1s.
The teacher will give the students a question and partner 1 will share their answer with
partner 2. Once they have shared their answer, partner 2 will share their answer.
Once all the students have answered their question, the teacher will have either the inside
or outside circle rotate clockwise to a new partner.
Students will have a new partner where they will answer the next question from the
teacher.

When/Example

This strategy can be used in all subject and grade levels.

I would use this strategy in an ELA class when students are reading a narrative story. I
would ask the students questions like what they believe the theme is, main characters, etc.
